Serious Sam 2 Announcement
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 20, 2005 7:39am PDTIts development was hardly a secret, but 2K Games today officially announced that Croteam is working on Serious Sam 2. The game will ship this fall on PC and Xbox. A preview of Serious Sam 2 can be found in the June issue of Computer Games Magazine.
"Gamers have been anxiously anticipating a full sequel ever since Serious Sam: The Second Encounter was released back in 2002," said Christoph Hartmann, Senior Vice President of Publishing for 2K Games. "The frantic action and lighthearted humor of Serious Sam really struck a chord with gamers worldwide, and with a brand new engine and greatly expanded gameplay, we think fans will agree that the return of Sam has been well worth the wait." "Our second generation Serious Engine allows us to create characters with over 100 times more detail than the last game," added Roman Ribaric, CEO of Croteam Ltd, developers of Serious Sam II. "This has allowed us to create huge, lush environments and even crazier enemies than before, without having to scale back the gameplay in any way. Gamers can rest assured that with the capabilities of our new engine, we're not only going to match the record we set with the first Serious Sam for the most enemies on screen at one time, we're going to surpass it."

Over at GameMecca.net we had an interview with Goran back before the information embargo from Take 2. It has some great info in it and yes, there is co-op in the PC version. Here is the link:

They took basically Quake, increased the monster count ~100x, added a whole lot of variety to the enemies and just threw you into room after room of scripted appearing baddies. Added to this chaos, they had co-op blasting action out of the box, pretty simple dedicated server setup and only $20 brand spanking new.
When I picked up the first version, I immediately told my brother to buy another, setup a dedicated server on my DSL and we finished up the game, co-op with 6 other people online in a few hours. We did it again with the newer Serious Sam and this time I cranked up the damage, monsters and respawning!

Anyone remember in SS1, that room, where there were literally hundreds of those small monsters jumping on you. Man that was fun.
