I felt the exact same way... I do have a passion for Diablo 2 but Divine and Beyond Divinity has really kept my Diablo 2 fantasies alive.
Maybe DS2 will be the way it should have been this time... (Damnit CT we bring out your secret weapon... the next big RTS! )
Nearly everything else about DS1 I enjoyed though, so I might give DS2 a shot.
