Sony PSP Launch Impressions
by Alec Matias, Mar 24, 2005 6:15am PSTThe day has arrived and stores everywhere are now opening their doors to eager gamers who desperately need a new portable system in their lives. Packed with accessories and backed by quality games, the launch of the PSP appears to be one for the records books. I offer up my initial impressions of the PSP hardware and a select group of the launch titles.
Read the entire article here. Later in the day I'll update the ShackReviews database with every released PSP game and in the evening there will be more game impressions. If you have already snagged yourself a unit, go ahead and post your impressions of the system. Pics + divx, please.Technically speaking, the PSP is a far superior machine to the Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS. It's a powerhouse device, capable of displaying modern graphics, playing robust sound, and can even replace a portable DVD player. However, many of its launch titles are just watered-down versions of PS2 games and Sony has no experience in portable gaming. Nintendo has been doing it right for a decade and half, why should we think the PSP can just waltz onto the scene and take over? Can it even be done? Let's take a look at the PSP and some of its launch titles to help us solve this question.

I'll mostly use it for 5 hour plane rides across the country.
Did I make a mistake? Should I try for a return and get a PSP?

Just wanted to get an idea how many PSPs have bad pixels, and how many are bad.
I have 3 - two pretty close to the bottom, and another in the middle left.

Now I want to figure out how to skin the UI.. :) Surely you can somehow change the background wallpaper.. somehow.. the current UI is sexy as hell, but i sure would like a Stormtrooper in the background.. heh

If you're looking for a simple game that involves picking up badass weapons and blasting the crap out of other people, give this one a try. :D

My 32MB MemStick was pretty much full, with a 20MB video and then the rest with softcore porn pics... and I tried to play WipeOut Pure, (coworker bought hte game, but is picking up his PSP tonight). It wouldnt get past the mem card stage in the startup for the game, so i exited, deleted some of the pics so it had about 1MB free, (the game said it needed 480KB or so) tried again still no go, would lock up.. so i deleted all the pics, 8-9MB free on the card now, and runs fine..
Just make sure you have a couple free MB free on the MemStick when you play games.. that is all.. :)

PSP owners....I don't have one as of yet, but I can only see someone here scratching or scuffing that beautiful acryllic screen at some point.
Well for some of us ipod owners we risk the same folly. However there is a solution and I would suggest some of you either look into it or buy some.
There is acryllic polish you can buy that will remove scratches and scuffs completely and is completely non-abrasive. The link is from ipodlounge.com but I imagine this stuff would work just as well on the PSP as some of this stuff works fine on other surfaces, like eyeglasses and other acryllic surfaces...

Two people have showed up this morning with psps. First is our metrosexual database programmer and second is our coop. Our coop showed up with wipeout and our db programmer showed up with metal gear acid. Guess who bought this thing to show off and guess who bought it to play games?

In the week I've had my PSP, I've been surrounded on a train, had a waitress ignore all her other customers in a rather upscale steak house and had a police officer halt his rounds to come over and ask to see more – and inquire about the cost.
That's just in the real world. You should see how excited they are in gaming message boards.
Hahaha
