Late Night Consoling

The first U.S. review of Metal Gear Acid was posted tonight, care of IGN, and they gave it a rather disappointing 6.5 out of 10. Too much thinking and not enough engaging action appears to be the crux of the game. The score is surprising, considering the positive foreign press around the game. Let's hope we see some more opinions on that game in the near future. On a similar note, who's attending a midnight sales launch for the PSP? I guess I triggered Steve's interest in the device earlier today and he's bummed out he won't be able to hit up a store at midnight tomorrow. There's always Wal-Mart!

Delivered on a standard Xbox DVD disc, the multiplayer content can be used by gamers on Xbox Live as well as those who play multiplayer via System Link or via Split-screen (on one Xbox)." EBgames listed its release as May 25. Bungie is expected to make an official announcement on Friday.

The game will be repackaged and sold at $19.99 for the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube. "The tremendous retail success of Sonic Heroes across all platforms makes it clear that everyone's favorite hedgehog is still at the top of his game," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Entertainment Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "And this value-priced re-issue is just the beginning; Sonic has a handful of other big surprises in store for gamers throughout 2005."

Offworld Interceptor Extreme for the Sega Saturn. "This game is great because its so goofy. Its a monster truck game but just trucks, trucks with GUNS. The plot is so bad they decided to have 2 guys rip on it MST3K style." (submitted by Turd Ferguson).

  • The IGN review of Metal Gear Acid is a very poorly written review.

The reviewer apparently expected a traditional Metal Gear Solid game on the PSP. Any person with half a brain would have known that this game was not designed to be that, and instead was something different. Thus, they were disappointed.

As I said earlier today, the guy who wrote this review is the same one who made references to the Japanese Vampire Chronicles game in his Darkstalkers PSP review. Only a handful of people know about that game, most of who are Japanese. So why on earth mention it in a North American review? How is that a point of reference?

Its like IGN specifically chose someone who won't like the game to write the review. Who on earth makes decisions like this? Seriously, expectations are everything when it comes to video games, and just from reading the previews on IGN's own website you can discover that what this viewer expected is not what the game provided.
