Brothers In Arms Multiplayer Q&A

by Maarten Goldstein, Mar 02, 2005 7:56am PST

Following up on our recent singleplayer interview, today we have a another Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30 Q&A asking lead multiplayer level designer Matthew Armstrong a few questions about the objective based multiplayer. The Xbox version of Brothers In Arms should be showing up in stores now, the PS2 and PC version will follow soon.

Shack: Are the multiplayer missions based on single-player locations or are they all-new? Matthew Armstrong: There are a couple of Multiplayer missions that are inspired by single player, but they are all unique and different from the ground up. It would actually be quite difficult in this game to create a mission that works as well in single player as multiplayer because the requirements are quite different. While in single player every enemy position has a flank, in Multiplayer every friendly position must also have a flank, and every flank must have some sort of counter-flank. This requires every mission to have multiple options at every single location, rather than just at key combat areas. We also have to be aware that combat can happen in any direction, with the dynamic and push constantly changing. You will also have players learning the missions in far greater detail than they would single player, which will open all new strategies and situations.
