Republic Dawn Announced

Elixir Studios today announced a sequel of sorts to Republic: The Revolution, as together with Nicely Crafted Entertainment they are working on Republic Dawn: Chronicles of the Seven. The 2007 game is described as a massively multiplayer first person shooter set in space (the first game was an RTS title). More info can be found in this press release.

Republic Dawn is a vast MMOG first person space game based around an embryonic society devastated by a sudden attack. The players must rebuild the Republic facing tough political, economic and military decisions along the way. During this time a deep story of human struggle will be acted out with the players challenging every decision. With a progressive and immersive gaming environment of unique depth and detail, Republic Dawn promises to be a definitive MMO game.

I hope they know what they're getting themselves into. These things seem to end before they're even start. I think they should get some more games under their belts before they tackle the mmo beast. Right now they're only known as the "evil genius" guys.

It sounds like a nice ambitious storyline, but I'd be willing to bet that like all MMO's, the characters won't be so much participating in a galaxy spanning tale in intrigue and human struggle so much as they'll be standing out in a field 50 feet from where they initially spawn into the world punching small alien rats until they can afford a knife/blaster.

I suppose we'll see.

geeze ... quit announcing stuff 2 years in advance. Now they have to start the hype machine and keep it rolling for 2 years, while everyone is super interested. Then the interest dies off and the game becomes "oh thats the game that was announced 2 years ago... so hey how about a game of XYZ that came out this week"
