Late Night Consoling

21
Not only will there be much excitement around the three next-gen consoles at E3, but I'm sure there's equal anticipation for the new Legend of Zelda title for the GameCube. Although I grew up on Nintendo, I was never "big" into the Zelda series, mostly because I was too young to enjoy an RPG. However, the screenshots for this new Zelda are absolutely breathtaking and makes the game hard to ignore. I can't wait to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve with this one. Also, hey, if you're in the Los Angeles area and will attempt to get free gas, take some pictures, will ya?

Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma was interviewed by French publication Liberation and he dropped a few details on the new Zelda game for the GameCube. While he couldn't say much, he did say that the game will take place after Wind Waker and that it will be released in Japan at the end of the year. Aonuma added, "I can reveal one lone secret: it'll be very, very beautiful." He also confirmed that work is underway on a Zelda game for the DS, saying "In fact, know that our ideas for Four Swords have greatly contributed to the concept behind the DS."

There will be 24 courses and support for up to four-players at a time. It also uses the Namcam2 camera, which incorporates players faces into the game. It will be in Japanese arcades in the fall and no US or console plans were revealed. The Magic Box has some screens here.

A representative of Kemco said, "It's safe to say that we're not going to resume production on that one at all. It's unfortunate, but it's just not going to happen."

  • Another Suikoden in the Works?

    [ps2]

A veteran Japanese voice actor revealed in his blog that he's logged hours doing some work on a Suikoden game. That doesn't reveal much, such as platform or release date, besides that a new game is in the works. Hopefully we'll get an official word soon.

In the end the GC will have had very few titles, but considering the number of titles the quality/quantity ratio is quite high. I have like 6 games on it, 5 of which I consider to be outstanding in a way or another (MarioSunshine/ Zelda:WW/ Pikmin/ MetroidPrime/ AnimalCrossing). Still, more titles would have been welcome. Heck, the SuperNes had 3 Super Mario games (MarioWorld, AllStars, Yoshi Island) :s

You can add more to that list. Metroid prime echos, Pikmin 2, Smash Bros, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, Donkey Konga (hopefully), ikaruga, Resident Evil 4, other resident evil remakes.

Really it has about 10-20 solid tittles for it that are console specific. And some games a truly wonderfull and make my top 10 console list (Pikmin).
