Shack Survey 2005

by Steve Gibson, Feb 11, 2005 3:48pm PST

As we're embarking on some pretty big changes this year with the Shack, we're looking at all kinds of things that need to be done. One of them, as always, is marketing revenue to pay the bills, which means we need to keep a tab on who you guys are. If you've got about 2 minutes to spare please fill this out.

- 2005 Shack Survey
Some stuff going on this year? Hiring Alec full time and more writers for a strong flow of in-house content. Heavy expansion and redesign of ShackReviews into a full gaming information database to include future titles. Expanding FileShack internationally with mirrors overseas starting with Europe as well as replacing the support and billing system for FileShack. Plus more stuff! It's time to start pushing forward!

  • I think that this site is resourceful for gaming community, well at least that is my impression. I wouldn't even think of the route of gamespy/spot or ign. They are commercial enterprises who pump out fud.

If I was going to give you any feedback on improving your site. Do the things that you have been doing, just better.

For those that are new to your site, like myself, give them a clue to what your purpose is. Although everytime I come here I go to the latest comments and read them, they are well worth the time, I have no idea as to where they are coming from. I might just be used to /.'s format of article and then feedback however.

  • The thing that I would most like to see are some interviews and dialogs with game developers that are not sugar coated and just disguised as marketing. When I say game developer I very specifically mean not producers and marketing people. I like to hear about what really goes on behind the scenes what the developers are really thinking. Even specific accounts of how a decisions was made. I want an interview where the questions are harder and more difficult to answer than the ones that IGN or Gamespot throw out there to people. If the developer skates around a question I would like the question to be asked again.

Some interviews and discussion I have liked have happened at 1up when they did the thing where they sent out questions to developers at the Xmas season and developers wrote in with their responses. They were REAL questions and not marketing BS. I also like the http://gamesindustry.biz stuff.

I also know that this may never happen because of the way things work in the industry, but it is what I am interested in reading about. I hope that an independent website can have some original content that is also independent in nature. If you know what I am saying.
