So far I would have to say, the stupid help desk ticket of the day already when I first came in.

My screen saver has disappeared ever since Alllen installed some new software on the LRP CD this afternoon. I also did a Help Desk request just now on this, and it didn't show up after I hit Save Help Desk. If this one doesn't show up I'll hjave to leave a voicemail or email with Allen.

So, I guess I am off to fix a screen saver...I hate him.

I got this email from a co-worker. A nice guy who was born with a pocket protector embedded in his chest.

You know those warnings about super glue- don't get it on you? Believe it.
I bought some cheap runny stuff and tried to use it without the long
pointy cap. It cooperated by running back down the tube, and glueing my
finger to the tube. I used a knife to cut off (as in "separate") my finger
from the tube (mostly cutting skin), ending up with a raw place on the
ball of my right index finger. It really could have been much worse- I had
superglue covering much of 3 finger ends to the knuckles for over a day.
In hindsight, I should have put a heavy coating of hand lotion on before
doing this.

If you like the gory details: the first time an area of skin sticks, it's not
so bad to just pull it off. But if that area sticks again, there's less
dead skin and you're closer to "living" skin. The area most "abused"
somehow managed to get stuck and unstuck a couple of times.

I really hate how some games are unintuitive.

There is only one way to beat the level and you must figure that ONE way out. All other ways kill you without hinting at how you are supposed to beat it so you have to play the level over and over trying to figure it out.

Doom3 was horrible for this (because it was so goddamn linear and because they liked to make it so you had to use little "tricks" to beat certain parts). IGI is pretty bad at it on certain levels. Far Cry was awesome about it because there are so many ways to beat a level. If one way isn't working try another.

Not only is this annoying, but it also kills replayability because the game is only hard because you have to figure out some inane trick to get past parts or figure out the proper sequence to do things in. So the next time through you already know it so it is easy (or it sucks if you figured it out the first time through).

Come on devs if you're going to make something difficult, make it require more skill to get past. Thats why they're called skill levels as opposed to tenacity levels.

And please no more insanely linear games id. I love you guys, but damn. The linearity totally killed the immersion factor for me. "aah this door is locked. Guess it will open as soon as I've completed my task. Aah good thing all the doors I need conviniently unlock ONLY when I'm ready for them." Or the way behind you collapses or something else ridiculous. Not to mention you cant fucking climb anything higher than your waist. OMG THERES A BIG MONSTER AFTER ME. OH NO I CAN'T CLIMB ONTO THIS TINY LEDGE THE STAIRS RETRACTED FROM!

How realistic is that? Also by making it 100% scripted you absolutely destroy replayability. Why play through when I know where all the imps are going to jump out at me? There are far better run and gun games out there.

This goes for HALO as well. The only game I can think of that it doesn't go for is Far Cry. Far Cry and HALO also have the nice non-quick save style. If I can quicksave I will use it. I'd prefer not to, but when I'm getting gayed by scripted leaping imps what else am I gonna do? Enough ranting from me.

Resident Evil 4's equivalent to Dead Man Walking (it's known as "The Mercenaries" -- ha!) is one of the more fun bonus modes I think I've ever unlocked.

It's exactly what I would want out of the game at this point: Throw me into a bunch of cool arena/traptown kind of levels and let me kick as much ass as possible in the shortest amount of time. If you want to give someone an idea of how cool the combat is in this game, this is the mode you want.

It's all fun and games until the chainsaw people come out. :(

Malazan book of the fallen menz:

I just finished "Midnight tides" and it fucking rocks. I mean, it's the best so far. I stand in awe of Steven Erikson and his work. This is the best series I've ever read, and I've been devouring books for 20+ years. Better than Tolkein, better then any sci-fi I've read (and that's my favorite stuff) and yes, even better than George RR Martin.

Outstanding. Simply the best. And the humor in Midnight Tides rocks as well. Reminds me of pratchett but in a serious fantasy setting. So good.
