I bought Asherons Call (due to falling in love with the beta), I don\'t play it much. I would but my life has been way to hectic lately, it\'s a great game though and I think MS and Turbine did a good job. Either way yeah online has lots of pitfalls, its not accessible as much as single player and it\'s just not as fun.
Halo on the other hand, I just looked at all the sshots and i\'m very very impressed, I don\'t know what it\'s about but I don\'t think I care. Beautiful looking engine and the gameplay looks good, I want bots though. :)
I can\'t play on a lan, I have no friends, I have 1 with a lan but he doesn\'t like me that much and no one else really cares for me, i\'m just a loser who lets life slip by. If I had lan friends I would probably get into some online games on there, but I don\'t know. How are you going to play TF 2 with 4 vs 4...TF was meant to be a semi massive game, with at least 16-32 people for the \"FUN\" games, I mean I can imagine 2fort like maps with 4 vs 4 (which are very fun and hectic) but I just don\'t see it being all its worth on a LAN. Even though I haven\'t played it I will go at that statement.

I\'m looking forward to a couple of those, mainly Duke Forever and Tribes 2.

I\'ve seen the Soldier of Fortune OEM and it was just.. well, it seemed pretty mundane to me. Once past the new animation, it was same old, same old. I\'ll probably check out its demo though.


I can safely say though, that there are no other online only/orientated games.

Everquest really, really sucks (as well as being a waste of money) and I\'m really pissed at Origin for murdering the Wing Commander series to make another money grubbing \"massively multiplayer\" game.

I really can say though that a few games i\'m looking forward to are:

Duke Nukem Forever (Sexy)
Max Payne (Are they still doing it?)
Halo (I haven\'t seen anything honestly...)
Tribes ][ (I will give it another chance)
Diablo 2 (It\'s diablo for christs sake)
Anachronox (Nifty RPG)
Daikatana (Romero made DOOM and QUAKE, it won\'t be that bad, IMHO)
Soldier of Fortune (I will laugh if someone makes a columbine mod or a school shooting one, and I will enjoy it)
Battlezone ][ (Sexy RTS)
Black and White (Ooh playing gawd)
Giants (MAYBE no clue really how this will work out

I\'m sure theres a few I missed, just ignore that...this is strictly MY opinion, I think that those games will be good for a few reasons.

1. Wonderful engines.
2. Lots of gore
3. Replayability will be high
4. Singleplayer capability (Hopefully on tribes ][ and halo)
5. Fun original ideas (a few at least)

I\'m on Dial-up too dude, that doesn\'t make me any less of a idiot than you though...when I posted my rant I was in an extremely bad mood because I just had an epiphany (sp?) anyways, don\'t worry about what I said. But it\'s true, why does everyone want a online game, because they are HUGE markets and some can be -fun- in a sense. I see how playing with live opponents thousands of miles away can bring an emotion you cannot get in a single player game, but in retrospect the best games ever have been single player games, I don\'t see fucking donkey kong ONLINE or even Pong, you can play through a tcp/ip i\'m sure but not with 32 players! :) Okay, now i\'m just being silly, but if some of you who can comprehend what I mean, you are smart, the others that can\'t? Well....do whatever you want, i\'m not going to give you advice because some of you are stupid enough to do it. Just saying we had lots of nice stuff coming out and for some god forsaken reason most has been discontinued/delayed/forgotten because of the onslaught of online games and their popularity, lots of people don\'t have access to modem\'s and 24/7 connections. Simply being poor enough to know what that feels like I had to deal with it for 2 years, it was horrible having to disconnect every hour, and then getting to play Team Fortress for a few hours. Once I did get my second phoneline I became a junky, I can say just like the rest of you I spent MANY a nights playing that fucking game, I won\'t go into details but I played since really the release of it and I loved everytime I played. In the end I ended up playing EverQuest which made me hate online games WAY more than one should, the discontinued social life I led after my first forray into this game just fucked me in the ass. I can\'t say the same for DM games, but I miss the single player aspect, I miss jumping around a corner and knowing that if i\'m on hard and with 20 life, im fucked...and on easy I have a chance, in multiplayer it\'s all about skills (well it used to be), now it\'s all about your connection. I don\'t hold a candle to ANYONE online anymore because of the huge market in cable modems in larger cities, I live in a small piss poor town in Montana and we don\'t have that, but I try not to complain. Maybe i\'m jealous because I can\'t play with some of you freaks but in a way I kind of hate online gaming and i\'m sure lots of you can agree with me, I applaud some games for trying to implement single player and multiplayer (very briefly either being one or the other) but at least trying. I hate companies for making strictly deathmatch, I spent so much time playing Duke Nukem 3D single player, Doom 1 and 2 single player, Quake single player, Quake 2 single player (reviewed maps for a few sites during that), Unreal single player...and anything else really (Non-FPS mostly). But during that time I had way more fun than I do now, I don\'t get the satisfaction killing someone online as much as I used to, I think its technologies fault for making games so flashy and un-gameplay-oriented (I just made up a word). Okay i\'m rambling, yeah this is another flame and it probably doesn\'t make sense, but that\'s okay its my opinion and can any of you take my opinion away from me? Well you can, but please give it back :(

Half Life came out in 98 but that doesn\'t mean shit, they were working on TF 2 way before the day Half Life came out. Half Life uses the Quake 1 engine not the quake 2 engine, they re-did like 400% of the fucking code though. Okay first of all, why the fuck do you guys care that this is coming out in late 2000? It\'s obviously for the better, but those fucks at Valve better have changed engines, the Half Life engine plays like ass and looks like crap compared to the real next-gen engines out now, what am I talking about? Imagine TF 2 with the UT engine, or hell even the Quake 3 engine lays the fucking Half Life engine to waste. I wouldn\'t mind them using the Halo Engine, or a collaboration of the 2 developers making a better bigger Halo/TF2, I still have no clue what Halo is just seen a few sshots and nifty as shit it looks to be. Online games, over hyped pieces of hyped garbage or the future? Both, because we all fall into the hype and it becomes the future, this is the bullshit that will ruin gaming, TRUE gaming, forever. Games like old school quake, unreal single player, diablo, hell even fucking Sam & Max make the new shit look like \"shit\". I don\'t know who started the online trend, I had fun playing TF but the rest of the shit coming out or is it out is truly HORRIBLE crap...I miss my single player and lots of other gamers do, but the new hardcore selection of elitist gamers (the 13 year old bastards running their 1337 p2-333MMX with 64 RAM and CABLE modems) ruin it for all of us, imho.
