ION Storm Closed?
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 31, 2005 2:23pm PSTAccording to news blog Joystiq, Austin based ION Storm is closing its doors. The company was responsible for Deus Ex and its sequel as well as Thief 3; all critical, if not commercial, hits. Designer Warren Spector had already left ION Storm last year, and owner Eidos is having problems of its own so this doesn't come as much of a surprise.

Looks like that philosophy has run its course to its logical conclusion. Too bad. I hope Warren finds another place which will support his work. I expect that any place would be thrilled to have him on board (Eidos notwithstanding), so I'm sure he didn't/won't have to look for very long.

What I hope is that he doesn't become focused on these kinds of IP's and eventually goes back to making games like Deus Ex, original titles with their own worlds that allow the man to express his fine ideas.
