Valve Helps Mod

Because it's so slow, I'm just posting stuff to keep ya entertained. Figured I would mention this because of the many people still playing Half-Life. Jenni from Valve sent along two screenshots, [shot 1], [shot 2], showing the new version of the very popular Counter Strike mod for Half-Life. Valve helped finance and produce this new version which will have two new maps and fully automatic shotgun, as well as numerous improvements as a way to thank the Half-Life community for all its hard work.

  • #38 what was the point of that long post? i don\'t want to reread but could you summarize? i think i got the part where you said it was good for the mod community that valve is helping but what was the rest? are you trying to say that your mod is sponsored by valve too, or are you saying you don\'t want to be, i uhh just don\' uhh git\' it.

oh wait i read a bit again, you said cs is an unimpressive mod and your mod is boss... okay well whatever, your impressive mod better make a impressive webpage or else it will never take off, just look at cs webpage it\'s nice clean and functional not totally super slick but looks good.

  • hmmm well this isn\'t the first. The first announced yes...but this isn\'t the first time this has occured...Valve also poured a sum of cash into another mod/TC in development for it to be finnished...wasn\'t us...and I won\'t say as I gave my word (you\'ll here about it soon enough) I do not consider Riot Software a mod team.

Valve had announced they would be doing this, supporting the community, ensures longevity...id has been doing this for a long time now also.

As for the decision to make CStrike one of them is argumentative..I admit I played it, but wasn\'t impressed by the game style (another creatively done RB6 clone? ;). The weapons were great looking and so were the char. models...but you ain\'t seen nuthin yet(tm)

We have spoken with Valve from time to time regarding our free project which we consider to be a digital resume, to show off the quality of work we produce...though...we\'ve been keeping EVERYTHING under wraps...and plan to do so...it\'s the whole element of surprise really...

Now with TF being one of those mods also consumed by Valve/Sierra...that was a decision we made. I worked for Sierra QA for quite sometime (Projects being, Hellfire:The Diablo expansion, Diablo and even Halflife)...the idea was to integrate mods into HL before the shipdate (which at the time was November 97 some of you may remember)...

Alot of people who were on dev teams in QA whom were working on products like Betrayal in Antara and others, were spending most of their time playing TF for Quake. Being that it was probably THE most popular mod in the community besides CTF, Valve wanted to do something new..so we, along with Valve..decided to go with TF...which in the end, was a good decision...just wait for TF2 ;)

Now I hope you guys are going to dig what we are going to be putting out...we are working with some really great professionals and our team is one of the best around...and for some, yes we will update the site more (just tired of all these other projects who saturate the community with tons of screenshots constatnly)..

..and no..I am not here to p1mP mY 3l33T m0d...but more or less shedding some light on Valves intentions and why...I think it\'s a great idea..gives alot of these teams not only the professional experience, but something to work towards even more....

    so with further adu..

  • I\'m a die hard Q3\'er but I do agree that Counter Strike is far and away the most bomb mod of them all for any game in terms of just quality models, sound, skins and fun. I don\'t play it very often but my bro does and I watch him I like the whole deal of getting cash for killing it\'s rado and, man, jack up the volume and bass on the klipsch speakers and turn on surround sound and get into a fire fight and the SHIT gets insane.

They need more quality maps I think even though they already have about 8 or so good ones. Lots of the ones we download suck ass and look like maps from Quake1 and some of them have r_speeds that wouldn\'t even be palpable on a voodoo5 I think those have to be cut, erased REMOVED!

  • Counterstrike is the best mod out for a FPS. I\'ve been playing it since the first beta, gets better each time.. That new level for beta 5 looks like it is going to be a _blast_ to play (pun intended, notice the c4 location on the second pic) :)

I actually just got my Q3 from gamedealer, but I dont have access to my DSL at the moment. I just played it over a modem and its playable.. though it does seem LPB\'s do have a slight advantage. (I had 150-200 ping)

I think Q3 and Counterstike are the 2 most fun things to play as of right now. I\'m quite sure I\'ll add TFC to that. If nobody else has heard this, the Counterstrike staff said they would quit working on CS after TeamFortress 2 comes out. I hope thats not true..
