Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Nov 30, 2004 5:30pm PSTWell it looks like some Half-Life 2 deathmatch tonight! (I hope?)I suppose I coulda fussed around with some commands to play sooner if I was really eager. Hopefully there are lots of toilets, otherwise I will complain about that teaser image being misleading.

The Polks sound awesome, but they are fucking huge. I need speakers that are less bulky, but sound as good. I don't think Polk is quite the same as they were back in the 80's when I bought these. They don't seem to have as good a reputation anymore.

My uncle is looking for a program that will keep track of all the people he knows socially and professionally. Names, numbers, email addresses, everything. Something a bit more powerful than Contacts through Outlook, I suppose. Also, he often needs to export the data for other uses, like printing Christmas card labels.
He is using ACT! 2000 now for work, Mozilla address book for email, and some awful VB program for the christmas labels. The goal would be to combine email and all other kinds of data into one database.
I've never needed to deal with more than 100 contacts, so I have no idea. He obviously doesn't have a Mircosoft Exchange account, or anything like that. Just a plain HP laptop with Windows XP. Personally, I think Microsoft Entourage would be perfect. It's a little more powerful than Outlook, but OS X only.

The effort comes on top of Google's plans to create a multimedia search engine for Internet-only video that it will likely introduce next year, according to sources familiar with the company's plans. In recent weeks, Mountain View, Calif.-based Google has demonstrated new technology to a handful of major TV broadcasters in an attempt to forge alliances and develop business models for a TV-searchable database on the Web, those sources say
