Maybe, from a storyline point of view, HL2DM could be viewed as the ensuing battle of humans versus the remaining scattered Combine forces after Gordon did his spoiler thing at the end of the game...

I loved HLDM, even though the original netcode was horrible. I remember all those crazy blue laser trip mines I'd setup, but then I'd accidently set it off my self. :)
