You goons enjoy Thanksgiving? Had the meeting of two families around these parts which went really well. Way too many deserts though.. just eat as much as I can until I have to puke, wait a little while and then eat more!

Lastly, I'm finally almost done with Half-Life 2 and it really has been enjoyable. The game does  feel like you are on rails though which takes away from the experience a lot for me. I can fully understand why that is and I dont really have any solutions to offer that could fit into a real development cycle though. Oh, and it's gotten to be way too easy towards the end at hard skill level. I'm sure I've also improved a bit with understanding the weapons and the AI but it was just silly easy for a good stretch.

  • G-Man speculation:

Remember how Breen says that Gordon is available "to the highest bidder?", and then Alyx says something like "he's bluffing!"?

In movies and stuff, that last line is usually a "oh crap, my cover is blown... what the heck should I say?" response, and so I think we should take Breen's comment seriously.

So what if it's true, and Gordon is just a rent-a-hero? Maybe Alyx and Vance just loaned him to fight Breen? That fits as an explanation of the G-Man... he acts like Gordon's owner, freezing him and unfreezing him when necessary, talking down to him like a child or a servant. It also fits with the G-Man's business attire... to him, this whole deal of heroes and genocide is just a big business deal. I think his human form is his real form, however, as he looks the same even after freezing Gordon and jumping into the elevator.

  • I'm not having much luck with my Gamecube and saving :)

I won an auction for a (official Nintendo) memory card on Sunday, so I'm thinking hey, the card will come in by the weekend for sure and I'll get to play some games at last. Well, it didn't arrive, and I did not feel like forking over retail prices ($30CDN) for a new one, so I tried the local WalMart cheap 3rd party alternative ($10).

It turns out Wind Waker is incompatible with some 3rd party memory cards. Awesome. My four+ hours into the game last night were in vein. On the plus side, I should be a pro at running through it next time.

I think I'll take back the memory card, especially if there's a chance future games might have the same problem. I'm bummed about not getting a chance to play before I have to disappear for exams :(

TL;DR - When they recommend first party accessories, they mean it.

And with that, I ask of the Shack to share some of your frustrations or anecdotes about third party accessories and gaming woes.
