Late Night Consoling
by Alec Matias, Nov 24, 2004 8:00pm PSTOkay, read the first story of tonight's LNC before you read the intro. Read it? Good. Thank you Miyamoto for giving us hope in Nintendo again. While his comments are not 100% ironclad confirmation of the direction of Nintendo, it's probably the most we've got out of the rather tight-lipped company. I've seen plenty of comments here on the Shack that wireless Internet was seen as a must for the DS and now it appears we have some strong people backing the notion. Also, finally, Earthbound fans get something new. Great stuff! Just to let you know, no LNC tomorrow, but I wish all of those celebrating a happy Thanksgiving.
| | Miyamoto Spills the Beans Gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto was recently interviewed by Famitsu, Japan's premier gaming magazine, and the guru revealed some rather juicy details about what's in the works at Nintendo. First, Mario 128 is still being developed for the GameCube along with a new Pokemon title by some "strong allies." Also, the newly-announced Mario Baseball is being worked on with the help of Namco. He also confirmed that Mother 3 (Earthbound 2) for the GBA is planned for release pretty soon. Now, for the bigger news. Miyamoto said Nintendo is getting aggresive with online play. The company sees online gaming becoming a big deal within 3-4 years and Nintendo will adapt. One way it'll do that by taking the Nintendo DS online sooner than we think. For instance, Square Enix and Nintendo are working together on an online title. |

Then again, it's better than Mario Sunshine, and it's probably a pretty accurate number for how many Mario games there have been in the last 20+ years.

That game should be remade...keep it a side-scroller but add 21st century graphics to it.

Now I don't have a problem with using a Japanese interface on the DS but my brother does. When you start up the DS for the fist time I understand that you can select your preferred language and I'm wondering if I will be able to select English for a DS bought in Japan. If the American version of DS has Japanese as an option then the Japanese one probably also has English as an option. So...what selection do you get on the American versions?
Another issue is if for example the Japanese and English versions of Mario DS will be able to communicate correctly for multiplayer. I don't see why it shouldn't work as the only thing changed is the language files.
The wait for the DS continues in Japan while you lucky Americans already have your hands on it :)

wow, didn't even know there was a second one ....
Donkey Konga is awesome... but I'm still waiting for that sidescroller and the pinball game that uses the bongos in controller slot #2 to improve morale...
