Star War RTS Plans

Uh oh, LucasArts is working on another Star Wars real-time strategy game. Force Commander and Galactic Battlegrounds weren't exactly triple A titles, but perhaps the ex-Westwood guys at Petroglyph can do better. From a Q&A with LucasArts president Jim Ward (thanks Blues)

... and I think there's a bright future there for games based on these new properties as well as original "Star Wars" games like a new real-time strategy PC game that Petroglyph is developing for next year. This game will take the (real-time strategy) genre in a new direction and will balance gameplay between the hard-core gamers who buy these games and the broader audience that's familiar with the "Star Wars" brand.

Force Commander did suck Maarten, but Galactic Battlegrounds was actually pretty good. Once the combined game/xpack hit the bargain bin for $20 it was well worth purchasing for some star wars based RTS fun.

Review of Battle of middle earth in PCZone today. They should get those guys to do a RTS for Star Wars. Theres no reason it a Star Wars RTS shouldn't be good, well unless theres a Gungan faction.

With their development arm long gone and clearly their only interest being in releasing Star Wars games (And maybe an Indiana Jones game every couple years), I wonder how long we have to wait until we start seeing things like Jedi Soccer.
