Gigamodem!
by Steve Gibson, Dec 14, 1999 10:29am PSTMore of that cool technology stuff that we'll probably never get to use but it's neeto to read about and wish we had it. Here's the headline: "Dallas-based start-up Media Fusion has won a U.S. patent on a process it says can send data, video and voice over electric wires at speeds thousands of times faster than current high-speed Internet access technologies." Thanks VE. I cant wait to use my gigamodem on my 90ghz IBM and Glaze3D.

If I get to used this, even if only once before I die, I\'ll consider my life complete. 2.5 gigabits per second, is like, what, 250 MB per second? Amazing...
Thing is though, this could be cool for people who carry notebooks around. Just imagine, a Plane with a Satelite \'net connection. You plug your notebook into the socket on the arm rest, switch it on and hey presto, it works. (Using the normal connector)
I see more possibilities at the level of generic connection style. You can plug into a multitude of different place and different connections, without any fancy specialised hardware (eg, go to france, and you don\'t need a different modem).
