If I were nerve, I would try to remove the focus from that aspect of the game. it will be hard, but in the end I think a more enjoyable game.

I love how people try to say that Doom3 didn't offer enough gameplay. What you really mean to say is it didn't offer what YOU wanted. Get over it already! I got plenty of play out of Doom3. While the core FPS mechanics were there, nothing quite so immersive has ever been done on the PC before. It was totally worth the wait.
What I want to know is, where are all of those cutscenes we saw before the game was released? With the scientist activating the machine, etc. Yeah yeah I know we saw part of them on the tiny screen when all hell broke loose, but there was more stuff than just the invasion. What about the chainsaw zombie and the Doom guy tossing the grenade in slow motion?

I did have fun playing it of course, but I'm going to wait for the next few Doom3 patches to see if they at least fix some of the CRAP in it. More maps, some outside sections would be neato to DM in.
I think Carmack is a God, and did kickass work on the engine, but the level designers and other elements of the game kinda sucked ass.
Flame away, bitches.

WTF is up with the emphasis on a double-barraled shotgun?!?!
seriously, as though their not in most other shooters!
hardly a strong selling point if you ask me...pfft

"DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil delivers players deeper into the heart of the UAC to uncover new secrets and technology used to destroy the demon force that's Hell-bent on destroying you."

they could do so many brilliant things but they keep rehashing the same design philosophy from wolfenstien 3d. that shit do'nt work anymore.
(its been said before and ill say it again) iD needs a friggin new design lead. they have the best art and tech team on the planet. but no solid design and gameplay lead.
when i heard about them hiring a writer for doom3 i was like damn, this is gonna be sweet. but the story was a farse.
its about time iD started making smart games that dont just require an itchy trigger finger and grey matter around the size of a rat. the flash light thing was cool but that was like the only good gameply idea in doom3. and it got old very fast.

I think there time has come and gone as a company. Too many other developers are just plain doing it better, and Im refering to games not engines here.

Again, personally, i loved it. I even liked the bit of Dm. I like the 'id feel. Hard to discribe what makes it out but i like it.
Here are a couple of points/ideas i think for having taken 4 years in development time, id shouldve done to make D3 a better game:
- More mars outdoors. The tram ride outside mars was too cool but too short
- Care or dont care: Some sort of vehicle action outside mars wouldve been cool. for example, some of your marine buddys are trapped in one complex. The only way to get them out there is to take the jeep/tank/tansporter (think Aliens) drive into the hangar door, load em up and then RUN. I dont think that wouldve been impossible to pull off. You drive and some of the NPcs shooting and O2 meter is running.....
- Fighting with a squad ala Halo or HL. I think thats a really big missed opportunity here. No control over squad fine, but come on.
- I really loved the atmosphere of the Dig site. . shouldve been longer.
- Better and longer ending, nuff said
MP
- More maps. I mean, after 4 years not even 10 maps? come on.
- Still to this day im amazed that the ingame browers are still sad and shitty (well minus UT2004)
- id be cool to have a map that has an outdoor area where you can lock people up so they run out of O2. Fun.
- more and better maps?
and last but not least....fuckin C O O P.
Still, i liked it. Just some thoughts...

Pretty frantic, and fun. I am not bothering to read through the journal / PDA entries, unless I need something for a locker code.
With your health ticking down to 25 all of the time, you have no choice but to run'n'gun. Quite a different experience.
The monster events actually scare me a bit more now, because everything is happening so fast.

--> Gore. Other than a few scenes in Delta labs there wasn't a lot of monster gore in the game where you get to see the stuff actually happening. It's one thing to see bodies of men with no legs and heads. It's another to see the demon actually DO IT IN FRONT OF YOU.
--> Levels in that place known as Hell
--> Vehicles. We saw a few of them scattered about the complex. Lemme jump in one! And roll over demon heads a'la Aliens. That drop ship that I started the game in lemme fly that sucker through the portal into Hell and mess some shit up!
--> Co-Op.

I would like to see some other developers doing things with this engine as id's work is done IMHO.
Yes, I know, but trolling is fun sometimes.
