This story on Computer & Video Games confirms that Civilization IV is in development, after the game briefly showed up on an Atari product list. The only thing mentioned by Firaxis was that they'll start talking about the game "after the first of the year".

hopefully they'll do something about the truly boring late game. In the hundreds of hours I played Civ3, only once did I actually complete a spaceship.

Not sure how i feel about this news. Loved the last one, i just have a hard time thinking about how they are going to improve on it . . .

Civ III was the most addicting and time consuming (non-mmorpg)game I ever played. I just hope the AI will be worked on much much more and the graphics are improved for CivIV. Would be nice if players could walk thru the city... or watch your army rape and mutilate another country.... haha would be nice if CivIV got an M rating

Oh man... How on earth can they improve on Civ3? Maybe more detailed diplomacy... Either way, I'm sure it will be amazing. Every previous Civ game has been better than the last. I can't wait!

Civ III is the most disappointing game I have ever played. The only good thing I can say about it is that it 'cured' me of ever preordering again (which came in handy when MoO3 and Invisible War were released, whew).

I'll be waiting for ShackOpion before I pick this one up.
