  • Not very impressive, and I thought sands of time was pretty good.

Camera control is all messed up, and I don't remember it being that way in sands of time (and I played the pc version and actually liked its mouse/keys control, this demo isn't the same).. it varies in speed depending on who knows what, it collides with the wall, and sometimes goes the wrong direction, and even at it's fastest it's not fast enough. Mouselook's been done forever, it's not hard to get right even in a third person game.

Don't think the music fits the game well, especially not if theres many vocal tracks (though the only one I heard was if you let the title screen sit)

Kinda neutral on the new fighting system.. I thought having to absorb enemies into the dagger was pretty cool (though it was lame that most of the time enemies wouldn't attack you while waiting for you to finish), the zombie things just disintigrating into dust when they run out of hp makes it just like every other action game. The bullet time when you chop something's head off was a big annoying as well, especially seeing it more than once in a fight. The ability to more directly control the combos will probably be good in the long run though.. you can do the high backflip off someones back, collide with the wall way up in the air, and do the wall stab move down from it.

And of course.. the demo's buggy as crap, so I got bored of trying to beat the golem boss guy without his ai shutting off and becoming noclip.. though one time instead he threw me halfway through the door in the room and I got stuck there till I died.. certainly hope this isn't even close to final.

I hope they have a fixed demo at some point, cause I would like to see the continuation of the story.. but I'm not getting it if it's anything like this =P

  • Impressions: It plays a lot like the last game, which to me is a Good Thing. The combat system has improved quite a bit, thanks to new combos and dual weapon system. It still hasn't advanced to the level of Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden though. Still combat was more involving and interesting than the first one. We'll see how far this new combat system can go over the course of the game.

Platforming is about the same as the last one (in the demo) but with a few more nifty tricks. I liked that floor spikes actually react like you'd expect them to (as opposed to tip toe-ing over them like in Sands of Time, you have to sprint over them. It felt more true to the spirit of the game). The game is also quite pretty as well, and enemy deaths are gorier and cooler.

The only complaint: Metal music? wtf? In some games it works, but it is definitely not what I pictured for this game. Takes away from the immersion of the game imo.
