Because I'm weak, I did end up buying Half-Life 2 / CS:S yesterday. I wasn't quite ready to drop $71 on Silver, but 19% tax on the $49.95 Bronze package still made it cheaper than a game normally would be here after converting back to Euro. Though I've only played about an hour so far, I'm really impressed with the new CS. All the engine features in the world don't matter unless you have good source art and the textures and such in the game are pretty phenomenal. Movie: It's a shame this happened. Now let's go pray and get shitfaced.

Anybody else get the lates copy of Maximum PC?? Count up pages of advertising versus the actual content. I just sent them this:

I've noticed a disturbing trend in the content of Maximum PC. I'm a subscriber since the early "Boot" days, and I think the staff writers, reviewers and techno-stiffs are top notch. However, seventy eight pages out of the last 120 page issue was devoted to advertising, and that's just full page adds!! Sure, I understand the concept of bottom line and stuff but seriously...WTF?? Almost 70% of the magazine's content is made up of advertising. A sixteen page spread by 1and1.com? C'mon. Why don't you just sponsor them in their own mag? Maybe if you threw a little more effort into content and diversifying your coverage the subscribership would actually go up and allow you to shoe-horn more useful information into those 120 pages. I get enough shit in my e-mail and snail mail. When I start getting it shoved at me in something I actually pay for, it's time for a change.

Seriously, WTF? Am I an ass for thinking that a subscription magazine with 70-75% adverstising content is a little wacky??

So what would you guys think about some CS:S shackbattles? Not just a "hay everybody join Rydoggs at 8!" but rather 5v5 matches. Nothing too serious or competitive, but something like a good ol irc pug game from back in the day. =P Any interest? Not that I have any control over the servers, but I think it would be be fun, just bit more involved and strategic than the pub play we've been having.

I gotta stop buying games. I walked into GameStop today to buy Katamari Damacy, I walked out with Katamari Damacy, The Getaway (used), Oddworld: Munch's Oddyssee (used) and the Elder Scrolls IV issue of GameInformer. This is the second time I pull that crap this week. :(
