by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 07, 2004 7:37am PDTSo, Counter-Strike: Source today. The Steam Silver option is still looking pretty good, but I'm not so sure about handing over sixty bucks without knowing when Half-Life 2 will finally be released. I think I'll just wait until we finally get an update on that. Movie: I am redefining weird on an hourly basis.

You think having a job for 50 years sucks, what about having a job for 500 years?
Then you have to think about over-population, you would just about have to have a government agency to regulate births.

For the past few weeks I've been tweaking the accuracy values for instant hit weapons. Stuff like railgun, machine gun, and lightning gun. Anyway, I've noticed some really weird statistical data which makes me think there's a bug in the code but I can't for the life of me find it. The other alternative is that the data, while surprising, is correct.
Anyway, the accuracy data is divided into different zones. The bot tracks one accuracy for enemies reasonably close, another for mid range, and another for far away. The close zone is at 256 units, the middle zone at 512 units, and the far zone at 1024. For reference, the lightning gun shoots exactly 768 units (halfway between middle and far).
The numbers I have so far are:
Machine Gun: 36% / 26% / 33%
Lightning Gun: 44% / 22% / 45%
So what this means is that for targets pretty close (256 units-- the distance where you probably want rocket splash hits), machinegun accuracy is about 36%. Further away the accuracy drops to 26%. And far enough away that the lightning gun can't even hit, the accuracy raises to 33%. Very strange.
(If you're wondering where the lightning gun gets accuracy data for 45% at a range of 1024-- further than it can shoot, in reality the accuracy numbers for a hit at 768 units are divided 50% to the 512 zone and 50% to the 1024 zone.)
I've tried a lot of different stuff but the accuracy data always seems to have this U-shaped curve to it, which just doesn't seem right. Is this REALLY how instant hit accuracies are? Do people really have trouble aiming at mid range but get better as the target gets further away? I'm not convinced this data is wrong but it does look suspicious. What arguments could you make for why these statistics are "supposed" to occur?

its probably slower paced than i thought, but over live and stuff it would probably get some action if it were to be released over here. takes a fair while to get to the point where you can create and tinker with your own magic decks arsenals, but its good to make sure you have the battle controls down before starting to work on your deck. and being totally english when the game detects an english machine is a real help. it looks sweet and the damage effects are really well done.
i wont bother writing anymore unless people ask cause i know people wont really care and i have no pics+divx to post but ill say that for the people that have the ability to play and have followed its progress that’s its definitely come good.

I have one, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Phone, Email, AIM, web browser (I shack on it), address book, notes, calander, to do list, and fun games. There's also an online catalogue where they're always releasing new apps and games for the device. Combined with a good keyboard that I think is comfortable to use, and you've got an awesome toy.
Go get 'em.

classes are groups of objects, that have something in common, like common functions and common parameters. for example the class "videocards" includes the objects "geforce2", "geforce4" and "X800", which have the attributes "price", "manufacturer" and "units_sold" and the methods "FSAA()", "filtering()" and "setResolution()" in common, so all of those objects have those parameters and functions automatically. is that right so far?
while "geforce2", "geforce4" and "X800" are objects within the class "videocards", they are also classes of their own (no?), where "videocards" is the parent class and the different videocards are subclasses of "videocards" (I'm learning this in german, so parent class and subclass may not be correct... please do correct me, for future reference).
while "geforce2", "geforce4" and "X800" all can do FSAA, filtering and change resolution, the class (?) "geforce4" also has the method "bumpmap()" and the class "X800" additionally has the method "smartshader()". "geforce4" has the additional attribute MXorTi.
then there is a class, independent from "videocards" called "shop", which wants to change the attribute "price" of the "geforce2" object to "$30". "shop" would need a method called "setPrice()" (of the kind 'geforce2.price == "$30"'?) and "geforce2" doesn't need to do anything apart from having the attribute/interface (?) "price" available. right?
did I get the technical terms right? does it seem as if I understand the basic idea of OOP? did I just write a lot of gibberish and should tell my university I'll go work at burger kind instead?
doesn't help that it's 1:20am here...
