eg. For the Bronze USD$49.95. That's around AUD$69
Most games in Australia retail for $90 on launch.. Doom was $100
I will be extremely happy to pay AUD$70 for HL2 and CS:S. Fingers crossed little Aussies!

I don't see any reason to buy a game in the store if you can buy it online.
You get the game early, you get it without going to some retarded store and you get it again whenever you want it again, whereever you are.
And most importantly : no F$%^&*( CD you have to find to play.
CD's must die. They break, they annoy, they are loude, they get lost.
The advantages of no legacy cd and packaging crap are even worth a premium in my eyes.
I guess i'm too progressive for the shack.

The reason that I'd consider buying something online is to cut out the middleman (in this case Vivendi) to get something that's the exact same quality, but $10 cheaper cause there's no publisher/distribution costs. But now since Valve has to charge retail price for the game, Vivendi is happy and the retail outlets are getting shafted for no good reason.

-- Half-Life 2* ok, expected
-- Counter-Strike: Source Excpected
-- Half-Life 1: Source* Eh why? Ok touch
-- Day of Defeat: Source* Meh
-- Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam
-- Complete Half-Life 2 Strategy Guide from Prima Games Worthless
-- 3 different Half-Life 2 posters Ghey
-- Half-Life Collector's box BFD Does that impress the ladies or something?
-- Half-Life 2 hat Really Ghey
-- Half-Life 2 postcard Incredibly Ghey
-- Half-Life 2 stickers Can we get more Ghey?
-- Half-Life 2 Soundtrack CD I got it in the game, I would not consider this Top 10 music to play in my car
-- Chance to win a trip to Valve! (1 trip offered for every 5000 Gold packages purchased). Eh, if it is all expenses paid, I would go for the trip and just not show up at Valve
So what am I getting for $90? The game.... ehhhh....

You take the pre-order money. Invest it quickly. Profit from it.
Then lamely say the game got put off a little longer. Then hem and haw to offer a refund in say 1 week. You keep the profit.
just a thought... so
10,000 geeks pre-order the game for the full 90.00 version:
900,000 dollars
if i can work my calculator at .05 that would be 45,000 dollars!
for say a month?
Can someone make up a better piece of bull.... than this?

God, some of these posts are pathetic.
Bronze = an ok deal, you get CS early, but not for not much less than the retail copy.
Silver = Lets say each Exp. pack is $9.99 (this seems low) if you buy ONE + retail you will have paid more
Gold = well, you have to REALLY like your HL. you are paying $30 for - the Collectors Edition box, a hat, 3 posters, a strategy guide (around $20 retail), and misc small stuff.
Silver seems like a really nice deal.

Law suits can go on for 15 years. Whats to say this isn't going to happen with Valve/VU? Wouldn't it make more sense to charge the same amount of money, but for now take less money? Then "unlock" the rest of my money once I can "unlock" the rest of the full product I want to purchase?

Even if they were selling it for $30,$40 they would be making more money then selling it retail in stores. They are doing this because they know they can.
Valve got greedy. Regardless of all the hype, HL2 is just a game, it ain't worth all the trouble.

What a bunch of whiny welfare geek bitches some of you are.
Really.
They are releasing the game at the $50 retail price because they cannot undercut VU's retail pricing. The $60 silver package seems like a good deal for the extras, plus Valve's back catalog. Someone out there is going to get a lot of value out of it. As far as the Gold package goes, it seems great for the fans who really like their game souveniers. It has more in it than the retail collector's edition as well.
At the very least you will likely save money on sales tax (four to eight whole dollars for you tightwads).
I'm getting the Silver. I've paid less for games that gave me less value than this HL2 package will.
