Half-Life 2 In November?
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 01, 2004 7:43am PDTIf the guys at EuroGamer are to be believed, we'll be seeing Half-Life 2 in stores November 23 (North America) and November 26 (Europe), despite recent legal news. This according to sources at Vivendi Universal Games and recently contacted UK retailers. The story also mentions there won't be online reviews of the game until it hits stores.
A VU Games source told Eurogamer this morning: "There is a good chance Half-Life 2 will make it before this Christmas. We're targeting the holiday season", adding that until it physically had a gold master it couldn't set an exact date. Nevertheless, the publisher is clearly confident behind the scenes that it can make the pre-Christmas rush, with marketing plans being prepared

By the rule of halves, that means about 10 hours of gameplay.
I'm sure it will be quality-filled, but I sort of wish they'd pushed for 25+ hours of gameplay. Valve should set the bar higher in terms of game length.
But maybe it will be just right, who knows.

They don't look like scans and they look a lot better than the crap that came from last years leaked binaries, so I have no idea where they came from.

Because the game is bad?
Only reason for not having reviews before release, that I can think of, is because the hype for the game is so great already that the distributor doesn't believe reviews of the game will improve it's selling potential.

We spoke to Vivendi this morning who gave us this official statement: "Last week we received a Half-Life 2 release candidate from Valve and in its current state HL2 is brilliant and astonishing. Vivendi Universal Games is in the midst of determining whether HL2 meets the gameplay standards of the company and, more importantly, the devoted fanbase. This is standard for every game and it's particularly important for HL2 given its technical depth. We are hopeful that we can communicate a ship date very soon."

Interesting to see more upbeat stuff starting to come from Vivendi.
