'Star Wars' have ended!
ANI[ FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2004 02:20:47 PM ]
LONDON: Star Wars director George Lucas has reportedly said that his sixth Star Wars film, Episode Three: Revenge Of The Sith will be the last in the Star Wars trilogy and he intends to make no more.
According to Ananova , though the director reckons that he is too old to continue the cosmic saga on the big screen, he plans to make the movie into a television series.
In the TV series, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will reportedly continue in their roles as Obi-Wan/Ben Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker/Lord Darth Vader respectively, but Gary Oldman who plays General Grievous in the movies has backed out from the venture.

I bought this TV last night. Can anyone recommend any other 'must have' accessories? I know nothing about 'monster cables' or any of that stuff to make my xbox look awesome on it.
Thanks

So the roommate just bought a house, and we're in the process of moving. He's filling the house with new furniture and whatnot, but since he doesn't cook, the kitchen is all mine.
I've been using the same T-fal stuff I had in college, and most of my appliances are on their last leg, so I'm getting ALL BRAND NEW STUFF, only I don't know what some good names are....
so post me some links to good kitchenware...pots, pans, knives, dishes, silverware, the works!!

I was thinking about getting an HDTV, but I never watch TV (I even just canceled my cable). So it makes more sense to me to spend it on something like a really nice huge monitor, but I can't find any good reviews doing comparisons. How good is it for gaming, and are there any monitors in the same class that are better ?

I have a Radeon 9600 Pro and the game just keeps hard locking my computer. I've tried catalyst 4.9, 4.8, 4.7, and 4.6. The Windows XP drivers from Windows Update are completely stable, but they don't enable 1280*960 for some fucked-up reason. Anyone want to suggest a good driver version for this card?

I need to know how to search a variable's value for a character and do something based on the results.
Example:
Customer enters a value in an EMAIL field, and the value gets plopped into 'strEmail'. I'd like an easy (??) way to search the value of 'strEmail' for an "@" symbol, and if one is found, do something (like maybe set another variable to TRUE or whatever, but that's not important). Basically looking to send an email to a customer if they enter a "valid" email addr structure, and don't bother sending one if they don't (to cut down on returned mail).
Is there a simple way to search a variable value for a character like this in ASP?

We'd like to have a tower of 5 hot-pluggable SATA hard disks, so we can run our nightly backup to one of the disks, then take it off-site the next morning. Anyone have a setup like this, or suggestions on where to start looking?

I don't know about you guys, but I fucking LOVE IHOP. There's a couple of different places open 24 hours here (which is important, since I work from midnight to 0830), but none of them compare to IHOP. The staff at Denny's ( http://www.dennys.com/en/ ) are a bunch of shitpacking assholes that have a weird knack for totally forgetting about me/us along with being slow to refill our coffee, and the Golden Touch ( http://makeashorterlink.com/?T2E842269 ) is a complete shithole unworthy of the white trash that it bring in.
In contrast, IHOP is clean, the staff are friendly (it's gotten to the point where we're on a first name basis anymore), and the menu is excellent for any time of the day.
Currently they're running an all-you-can-eat shrimp deal, where for $8 you get a basket of popcorn shrimp and fries and endless refills on the shrimp (or at least until you pass out). During a recent eating contest I managed to pack down 9 baskets though I'm sure I could have done more if I had actually been hungry :(
As a nice bonus, we're only a month or so away from neverending pancake season! :D
I know the website doesn't have the comprehensive menu, so I recommend going into your local IHOP and asking to see what they have to offer. The selection is quite varied and there's an incredible amount of combinations that you can try.
yes, i'm bored

And finally, if you thought ATI's Catalyst Control Center was bad, this is terrible news: NVidia is making a driver set that requires the .NET framework to be installed. Apparently it's a requirement for Longhorn.

It's the most no-bullshit, stripped-down, furious racer I've ever played. Collisions feel harsh and solid. AI is ruthless and aggressive and actively seeks revenge. Traffic always flows naturally. You win cars and stuff for just about anything. The sensation of speed is intimidating and exciting all at once.
Best of all, it's not frustrating. It can be a difficult game, yes, but even on the toughest challenges you never feel that the game screwed you. And honestly, sometimes it's just as cool to spectacularly wreck your car than to drift perfectly for 1,000 feet.
There is a ridiculous level of detail in the crashes. Road Rage mode shows this off the best, but for a nice racing break, Crash mode is fun with friends or just by yourself. It's almost puzzle-like.
When you have the gas floored, your boost on, and see an approaching 4-way intersection, that's when the true beauty of Burnout3 hits you.
The rewards and signature moves are just plain fun. Tradin' Paint, Battling, Revenge, even when you get taken out, it's done with a touch of coolness.
Take the best parts of Cruisin' USA, Outrun, Need For Speed 2, Hydro Thunder, F-Zero, and to a lesser extent, GTA: 3, and you sorta have Burnout3.

Best PC Launch in EA's History
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2004--Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS - News), today announced that, based on internal data, The Sims 2(TM) sold more than one million copies at retail stores worldwide within the first ten days -- the biggest PC launch in EA's 22-year history.
"The Sims franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and The Sims 2 is a game that changes the way we think about our industry," said Frank Gibeau, senior vice president of marketing, EA. "The game has sold one million units worldwide in its first ten days at retail -- more than fifty percent of those games were sold in Europe."
"The Sims 2 was easily one of the most anticipated PC games of the year, and incredibly, the game turned out to be even better than we expected, earning our highest rating 5/5 stars and earning an Editor's Choice award," said Computer Gaming World's Editor in Chief Jeff Green. "The fact that the early sales of The Sims 2 are so high comes as no surprise at all, given the consistently great quality of this franchise. At a time when console gaming tends to dominate the hype and headlines, The Sims franchise is one of the current saviors of PC gaming."
The Sims 2 kicks off a diverse lineup of EA GAMES(TM) branded titles for the fall including: Def Jam® Fight for NY(TM) and Burnout® 3: Takedown(TM), which are available now, and coming later this fall: Medal of Honor Pacific Assault(TM), GoldenEye: Rouge Agent(TM), The Lord of the Rings(TM), The Third Age(TM), The Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle-earth(TM) and the follow up to 2003's global best selling game, Need For Speed(TM) Underground 2.
The Sims(TM) franchise also will deliver a new console game this November to its loyal fan base, The Urbz(TM): Sims in the City(TM). For the first time, The Sims are moving to the city and it's all about building your reputation. Players will be able to unlock nine different districts in the city that never sleeps and gain access to all the hottest VIP spots while interacting with The Black Eyed Peas. The soundtrack to the game includes nine exclusive re-recorded music tracks from The Black Eyed Peas all in Simlish -- the game's quirky language. The Urbz: Sims in the City will be available early November for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, Nintendo GameCube(TM), Nintendo Game Boy® Advance and the Nintendo DS(TM).

My co-worker has the Dido CD and I would like to make a copy of it. When I was young this was appropriate because it was a friend.
Has this changed in the last 10 years? I do have the money to buy the CD.
