Half-Life 2 Coast Video

Graphics are kinda "meh"

I've played every major (and semi-major) FPS since wolfenstein, but I don't think I'll be playing Half Life 2, unless reviewers and forumers declare it as the best game ever or something. But more likely it's just gonna be another tired ole' FPS game, with some extra scripting and AI thrown in... and jumping headcrabs.

I remember how excited I was for HL1 when it was coming out, how I rushed out to CompUSA on the day of release, grabbed the box, which was next to the register almost, and somehow it got scanned for only $30!! Got home, installed, and was totally engulfed after the train sequence and the black mesa. But when the game actually started, I was completely underwhelmed until the first encounter with the marines. Then there were some cool levels with lots of marines (which, for all their coolness, consisted of me pulling out the badass pistol and shooting the marines in the face with them), and some bad ones as well. Then there were the alien levels *cough*. It was a pretty good game in the good parts, and I watched my friend play throught it after that as well. But I just don't understand all the people who are waxing lyrical about it nowadays, like it was the first coming of christ or something.

Now, from all the movies, HL2 appears to be basically the same thing (headcrabs/bugs in barren harbors??/stupid aliens/cool marines) with some team AI in a few places and maybe a bit of a storyline. It will also have that magnet (?) gun, which makes the game look like a tech demo more than any iD game I've ever played. I can't get excited about any of this stuff.

I hope this game is as amazing as people who are greatly overhyping it say it'll be, but if not, I'll have plenty to play with Rome:TW and SW:Battlefront.

just a little comment from me to all the guys who are saying you have seen the exactly same video before, well no you havent, the antlions have another texture skin now ;)

Note to Valve: no more video's please, just get the game done and out!

Off topic but has anyone had problems installing anything since getting sp2 at all? I downloaded the Ttribes Vengeance demo and Dawn of War demo and both install then quit at the end and no files end up being copied to the computer. I can see it pass and fail in my event log but have no idea why it would do that. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I really now do believe that the few working, heavily scripted levels from the leaked alpha WAS all they had back then. Why else would they spend this much time on delays. I think that dude from planethalflife was right. Remember when he quit because he was fed up with valves lies, he even said they were cutting parts of the game in order to get it out this year. I hope whatever comes out, if it ever does, it will be valves complete vision of halflife 2, not something they rushed out beacuse they were caught in a lie.

This looks way better than what I saw at E3 - if only because the framerate doesn't dip so hard. Guess they've optimized it quite a bit in the last few months.

Ok so some stuff looks like its been refined since E3 when I saw that video (at E3). Two things that caught my eye...

1) Guys don't gib. Gets hit with the rocket and no gibbage =\ just flung through the air like a ragdoll.

2) Finally, holding on to that revolver with two hands. It looks soooo stupid to run around holding the gun out in that position, 1 handed.

Can't wait :)

Speaking of mass downloading, has a Denver file sever ever been considered? I think it'd be a pretty good hub. If not the LA one normally works awesome for us here in the North/Central/West :P

as much as I like these videos and watch them due to the fact that I'm weak, I wish they wouldn't show us so much.

That was what was so good about the first game. NObody talked about it, they just said "just play it, you'll see" and we did. And it was good.

I'm sure there's like 90% of the game we haven't seen yet, but wtf, they release the video of the G-man and the intro to City 17...it's like why spoil the surprise? They should have just shown the E3 demo and nothing more.

you can get rid of the tearing if you download the rad video tools and choose advanced play, and use directdraw. the default it uses is absolutely crap, but i guess compatible with more systems.

Needs some hands on that steering wheel. It makes it feel like you *are* the vehicle, heh.

Anybody else notice ALOT of tearing when the guy climbed and use the crane?

at least h2 is going the route of unreal with 1,000 screenshots but instead we get videos to put all together and bam! we got ourself a game.. yay!

wow, i hadn't seen this before and i have to say this is the most impressive piece of gameplay i've seen from the game. i'm stoked again!

Pretty cool. Not too impressed with the human animations, but it's nice to see a bit more of the enemies and their AI.

Needless to say, this game still looks fun as hell...

soon we will have the entire game in bink format
