Dragon Empires Cancelled

Just two months before the launch of the game, Codemasters today very unexpectedly announced that their MMORPG Dragon Empires been cancelled. The company blames "technical issues", and mentions they still have "long-term ambitions in the massively multiplayer online gaming market". No doubt we'll be hearing more about this soon. This was looking like Horizons 2. Hopefully companies will stop trying to make MMOs with no good ideas and small teams.

Wow, canceling a game is far more difficult than it sounds. It means writing off *everything* you've invested in the game. Could have a big impact in Codemaster's success in both the short and long term.

I wouldn't call the announcement "Very unexpected". Dragon Empires was always close to the top of the list of MMOGs that could get axed. IMHO you can add Wish there now

These companies need to stop making MMOGs for a while, and figure out a way to produce them without the huge overhead that can bring them down once they are in fear of failing. Guild Wars had the righ tidea, and that's why that'll probably be the only MMORPG I pick up ever.
