Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Aug 21, 2004 5:00pm PDTThanks everyone for being so kind and complimentary on our 15 seconds (or few minutes I guess) piece on Shacknews that was on TechTV last night. You guys give me warm fuzzies all too often. We've been taking it a little easy this year as far as introducing new features etc. but I think stuff like that is really invigorating and just makes Maarten and I want to work harder. We'll try, and I've already started initiating the next round of improvements! :) (note: a Shacknews that doesnt load pigass slow for one!) Oh, and I'm 29 for the record.
- US Basketball team losing. :( - iTunes competition heating up - Language shapes thoughts - Apparently not everyone has the same sense of humor (Except for poop, cuz that's funny)Lastly, internet connected home appliances... Hot? Probably not.

Oddly enough, I've found that I like it better without specular lighting. It looks less plasticy, and runs a lot better too.
The buildt-in Source benchmark isn't exactly stressing, so I made a quick demo from a packed CS: Source game for those interested in a more realistic benchmark.

As usual, i'm playing around with "what car would I buy scenario's," and this weekend the candidate is the Honda S2000. I'm looking for decent S2000 entushiast sites so I can see what kind of things are breaking on these cars, common problems, pro's and con's from people who have owned them etc.
I'm only familiar with Nissan websites so just curious from the more experience car net nerds.

Do you have any articles or references to best practice concerning _blank vs. just linking to a site in the same window? I think _blank is a bad practice because of back button breakage, but I need a good supporting arguement.

We live in an old ass house, and the phone cableing has seen better decades. Our DSL speeds seems to be slipping down a bit past where they should be. Would it be worth it to rerun the phone lines with Cat5e straight from the junction box to the DSL modem?
Only reason I say Cat5 over Cat3 is I have a ton of Cat5 laying around.

Was about to turn right, and someone ran right into the back of him in a car, without braking, at 60kph.
He was riding an R1. This is it now -> http://members.iinet.net.au/~carewm/r1crash/ - ow.
The other guy is insured, and has a broken sternum - poor darling chunka has sore back muscles, but is otherwise uninjured. Apparently he landed head first, on his helmet, so no chance of damage to any major organs he makes use of.
lol, they had to stick a finger up his ass in hospital to check for internal damage, har har har.
