by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 05, 2004 6:39am PDTThough Doug Lombardi told IGN just a few days ago there wouldn't be any more Half-Life 2 media until the game's releases, here are three new screenshots from Valve's upcoming shooter posted on the Half-Life 2 website.
In other Valve news CSNation reports that the Counter-Strike: Source beta pre-loading has been delayed. It was scheduled to start loading onto computers through Steam today, but that won't be the case. There will be more info soon.

Play both games to have fun or if you don't like one of the games, DONT FUCKING BUY IT. If you dont like small, low light levels and the overall gameplay Doom3 gives you this doesn't make Doom3 a bad game, YOU JUST DONT FUCKING LIKE IT. Great go play HL1 or FarCry since that's your style. This does not mean the game is bad. If I don't like platformers I shouldn't say Mario64 sucks, I JUST DONT LIKE THAT STYLE OF THE FUCKING GAME.

Half-Life 2's graphics are not dated. They are state-of-the-art and able to render enormous outdoor scenes with heavy urban combat at high framerates. There is bump-mapping, normal-mapping, reflection-mapping, refractions, dynamic lighting, detail textures, and high-res textures. Jesus people..
We don't know what the gameplay is like yet, either. NO ONE knows. Anyone who claims otherwise is a fool or works for Valve. It's okay to like more than one game in the same genre.

I read somewhere (can't find link) that HL2 MP = CS:source.
If that is true, i will not buy this game. I don't need to play the same fucking multiplayer game on a different engine. If i want to play CS 1.6, i'll fire up CS 1.6. Jesus. Plus, the evergrowing "awsome" CS-community (mainly consisting of 13 year old fuckwads) doesn't do it any good eiter.

And Doom 3's engine would kill itself trying to to do the distances and scenes that HL2 is creating. We're talking oranges and apples in the graphics department.

Half-life is about gameplay and replay value. I'm sure many of you will have Doom 3 collecting dust after the first or second time you finish it. Then, the very limited multiplayer mode doesnt offer much to go on for Doom 3 after single player.
I'd rather play a game that has decent and STEADY frames and GREAT replay value over something that looks PRETTY but hammers your system into submission everytime there's more than 3 enemies on your screen at once even on a high end system.
I think Id hit it BIG on graphics, but I think graphics wont sell as many copies alone.
Valve with a possibly more playable engine and a STONG grip on the multiplayer masses has probably a large lead for game of the year status.
... If HL2 is released this year (smirk) =D

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying that I think HL2 will be weak in gameplay. I plan on buying it to experience the same great stuff I did in the original. All I mean is that since Doom 3 is looks to be leading the graphics charge, Valve has to deliver in the gameplay department or I'm thinking we're looking at another Daikatana.

The flora brushes look hideous and "old fashioned"!
Still cant figure out why a game that isnt that graphically impressive, runs like crap in current benchmarks for it with a month till its release.
I mean come on (28-32FPS on a 9800 or 5950?) and only (59-61FPS on X800 and 6800?).
And the fact that the newer cards is DOUBLE the speed is very disconcerning. /shrug
I still want to play it if it delivers what is promissed, but technically it doesnt have the looks to back up the slow video card performance.

the buildings on the right look so flat... flat textures are ..flat .. imo not appealing to the eye and simply lookign oldstyle now.

I think people are kidding themselves if they believe this game will bring innovative gameplay to the table. It will be Half-Life with better graphics and a new story. Half-Life was when the innovation happened, and this game like many since (including Doom3) is going to stick to that formula.

to me they are two different games. FPS but still different.
IMO, D3 is perfect. It plays great and is a lot of fun. I bought it.
Hl2 looks like fun and i will buy it as well.
Spending thousands of dollars a year on hardware its really pointless to argue unless ur a complete fan whore..."mines is better"...blabla
I do like the art direction in D3 more because its what i like. Weird odd scifi hitech...i love it.

not even by graphics, because you can't pick up on the surrealism and an influence of art design just by screenshots. yes, there is a big difference between OMFG KEWL GFX and ART DESIGN.
so those lil aliens weren't overly mapped like they would have been in Doom3.. it doesn't mean something that NEEDS to be mapped heavily, WON'T BE later on. god. you're not IN the screenshot to experience the quality and time they put in ambience sounds, animations and music.
so you see a flat texture, omfg cry.. you're gonna love those textures more often in outdoor scenes when you have 900 million polys trying to blow your head off (in sp and mp) where shiney, bumpmapped pipes and grates have no use but to slow your system down.
plus, i'd like to see d3 run a huge outdoor environment with vehicles and 16vs16 multiplayer action that (hopefully) will be playable fps wise.
don't get me wrong i still love you d3, but everybody laughed at that guy who challenged mike tyson and nobody thought by that boxer's mediocre boxing background he would beat tyson so bad...

Doom3, as an engine, will certainly get some pretty A+ quality titles (as most id license titles are), but I'm thinking the vanilla Doom3 won't have the killer MP mods than HL2 will.
Time will tell, but I'm betting HL2 will be a larget "gateway" of games compared to Doom3.

I don't think the problem is with people saying bad things about the game, it's that people can't accept that others have a differing opinion. Forums are there for people to state their opinions, good or bad. I think I'd get just as much crap if I said that I *did* like Daikatana, for instance. You know what? This game does not have the cyber demon or the BFG .
