Men of Valor Interview
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 28, 2004 8:07am PDTSome in-house content this morning, as we asked 2015 Director of Development John Whitmore a few questions about the upcoming Men of Valor. We also have three new screenshots from the Vietnam War game here.
Shack: How different are the PC and Xbox versions of the game, does either platform come with additional content? John Whitmore: You can do a lot more on the PC, especially with graphics and multiplayer -- so we have. For the past six months we have had a separate internal team devoted to making the PC game look and play on par with the PC competition, and we're really happy with the results. Every map has been retouched for PC, with additional assets, high-resolution textures, and a far more advanced lighting solution than on Xbox. We have added a lot of visual effects for the PC, including fully reflective and dynamic water -- not only the terrain and skybox are reflected, but so are the characters and vehicles, as well as weapon tracers, explosions, and everything else -- it really adds a lot to those levels where you are slogging through a rice paddy or fighting over a gully ...

basically i see alot of people in this thread talking about how they wont play a game that is based on such a war. my question is, do these same people not watch movies like "full metal jacket" or "we were soldiers". if you watch a movie but wont play a game, that seems very hypicritical to me. they are both forms of media/entertainment, but for some reason, it seems that games are considered the devil by people while the same thing gets oscars in movies. also, i know the vietnam war is a hard pill to swallow in general, but if you wont play a vietnam game , do you play a WW2 game? i know they are totally different in terms of outcomes and reasons, but at the end of the day, they are the same, WAR. and for the most part, war is bad, it can bring good, but from that good, bad, bad things happen.
my point, its a game, have fun with it. atleast while playing a game, you get to take part in the outcome of things. in a movie, you just watch it and take it for what it is. me personally, id rather play and have some fun, than just rant on a forum about how i wont play something cause its political, when in fact, the people probably saying that, havent even ever voted. if you want your voice truly heard, this just isnt the place. just have some fun.

But after hearing about them actually improving the visuals and not just being a lame XBox to PC port... and seeing the current screenshots I think I might be interested again.
Men of/Medal of/Badge of/Call of/Call to/Band of/Battle of
Honor/Courage/Duty/Brothers/Valor
Just use that and you've got 15 different game titles, none of which tell you really anything about the game. I had to read the interview to remember that this game was set in Nam.

John Whitmore: Men of Valor contains an amount of blood and violence appropriate to the subject matter, and tries to be authentically portray the atmosphere of the war. Language can be very profane, as you would imagine in a situation where people are shooting at you. There are instances of drug and alcohol use, and overall, the tone of the game is as mature and serious as the best movies on the subject."
Men of Valor looks and sounds great, and I can't wait to get my hands on it for gameplay. John Whitmore has great words for this game, and if they do the game justice, this will be the best Vietnam game yet to come.
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault was the game that put the Tulsa, Oklahama based 2015 on the map. Ever since the release of that incredibly successful game the company has been working on the Vietnam War shooter Men of Valor for Sierra.
