An uncharacteristic early update for PC.IGN today as they have posted a Tribes: Vengeance beta report, offering impressions of the game as well as new screenshots. GameSpy also chimes in with hands-on impressions, as does Action Trip.

I'm excited about this game. I loved the original, but Tribes 2 turned out pretty shitty if you ask me. The graphics engine was just horrible and ended up ruining the experience for a lot of people. Glad they went with the proven Unreal tech on this one.

On a side note, though, it doesn't sound like this game is really treading any new territory. Some of the descriptions from the previews sound nearly identical to Tribes 1 and Tribes 2. The new grappler gun is about the only fresh idea I'm seeing in there. Hopefully it'll still be a blast, though--because that's all that matters!

It's detailed but the NDA hasn't been lifted so only specially cleared people guaranteed to sound positive are allowed to write about it. I still can't wait for the open beta though.
