DOOM 3 Movie, SDK News
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 18, 2004 9:39am PDTA new DOOM 3 movie is now avaiable, first shown on G4. The video shows gameplay and interview footage. And for those of you wondering about SDK release plans, I asked id Software about it and you can expect game source & related tools not too long after the game hits the shelves. Also keep in mind the editor is in the game .exe so you can start mapping immediately.

trying to be overly trendy (apathetic) sure brings his screen presence down several notches. what a way to ruin a great video comprised of interviews and awesome footage!
Fortunately, Doom3 is way beyond that kid's comprehension, and I'll brush it off as trying to be cool in front of the camera.

Development time for maps such as DOOM3 have gotten longer and longer but have resulted in higher detail maps. Do you consider this a good thing or a bad thing?
Seems like its gonna get harder and harder to create content for games. Even to the point that it becomes a multi person task (I know that's how id does it it some cases).

What with all the DOOM3 hype and people getting nostalgic for some DOOM/DOOM2, I decided to let ya'll know about some of my own handiwork I created back in the day (1995/96) for DOOM2.
Just a note: If you want to play online, get ZDaemon (this program *rocks*, get it at http://www.zdaemon.org), and I will be setting up a server for deathmatching on PUREPAK1.WAD. But it will only be up occasionally as I don't have a dedicated machine for it. Anyways, enjoy:

This is a 5-level DM pak, featuring all of my PURE DEATH levels in one package. Each level revolves around the BFG lift in some way, which makes for some hilarious situations! Great lighting (check out levels 2 and 5), architecture and texture placement, and also added new sounds to enhance the overall atmosphere. Depending on the map, the action ranges from fast and frantic to strategic hunts. All weapons are included and the maps are designed for any number of players. This pak is definitely a must-have for any serious deathmatchers!

This is a 3-level co-op pak I created after downloading ALIENS DOOM 2.0 and playing the horrible levels that came with it. Loosely based on the film "Aliens", this wad was designed for co-op but can also be played single player. Although you can play without Aliens DOOM 2.0, I recommend you download and install it otherwise many of the textures, sounds, characters and weapon graphics will not be correct. Spent a considerable amount of time on the lighting, texturing and level design... if you've ever wanted to kick some alien ass in a squad, now you can!!! :)

Note: I did *not* create Aliens Doom 2.0. The above file is the installer for it, which will end up giving you ALI2SND.WAD and ALI2GFX.WAD once it has processed your DOOM2 files. These two wads are to be used in conjunction with ALIENCOP.WAD to give you the correct graphics and sounds for the map.
If you can't download any of the files from the links provided, just do a google search for the filenames (minus the .wad extension)

I always like looking at the bloody corpse so I can appreciate my handy work. I hope they don't disintegrate in deathmatch...

Hmm, where have I heard that before...
oh ya, thats right, CRYTEK. Dice, BIS. To name a few that promised the SDK "SOON AFTER THE GAME HITS STORE SHELVES". Well, I for one won't be buying this game until the SDK is available for download.
