BFVietnam WW2 Mod Plans
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 16, 2004 12:41pm PDTIn a new community update on the official Battlefield Vietnam website, DICE announces plans to release an official World War 2 mod for the game "in the near future". Thanks n0v4.
Have you ever wondered what Wake Island or Iwo Jima would look and play like with real tropical foliage? Do you love Battlefield Vietnam but you want to be able to relive the classics without having to dig up your 1942 disks? The WWII Mod includes the classic Wake Island, Invasion of the Philippines and Iwo Jima maps rebuilt to take advantage of all of the new features of the Vietnam rendering engine (normal mapping, undergrowth, overgrowth, etc.), as well as the gameplay tweaks that came with BFV. (capture timer, 3D Map, use of kit weapons from passenger seats, vehicle radios, etc.)This mod will also include a new flamethrower weapon for Axis and Allied teams, and all Pacific Theatre weapons have been re-animated as well. The community update also mentions that the 1.1 patch for BFVietnam is close to being released.

Sounds like developers are putting their art talent to good use when times aren't as busy. "What's that? nothing to do this week until coders finish up tools? we've got an idea for ya!"

BF:V just hasn't captured my interest like BF1942 did. I attribute it to the deadlier weapons and the lack of survivability, my natural interest in WWII, the freaking spawncamping helicopters, etc.
I love the BF:V engine, however. It makes playing the barren landscape of BF1942 difficult (but not impossible).
One plea to EA, if I may: please increase the splash damage in BF:V (and hopefully this new mod). Bodies flying everywhere made BF1942 sickeningly fun.
