  • Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 on Fragland:

Found this review to be pretty accurate. I've been playing it for over about two weeks now and loving the hell out of it. Although I think the lowest I would give it is a 90%.

    "the mini-map is not clickable"

You can left-click on the mini map to move selected units and if you right-click you move the camera quickly to that position.

"you are not warned when a tank that is somewhere on the other side of the map is under attack"

While I think they could have made your unit icons flash in the mini-map when they are under fire, I think they still did a remarkable job. You are still able to monitor the battlefield well with it.

"sometimes the AI behaves kind of stupid. Like when my good friend and overall Heroe Sergei was mowed down by a teammate who thought he could finish a tank by shooting with an MG42 against a building in front of the tank. "

The AI is really nice, but yes it does have the flaw that soldiers will attack tanks with small arms. The best counter for it is to set their behaviour to Return Fire and Hold Position. Haven't witnessed any friendly fire yet. The last patch also added a que for multiple way points and actions.

As was stated, if you are easily frustrated with trial and error (not unlike the Commandos series or Close Combat), you won't enjoy this game. The depth and control of this game is amazing IMHO. The by-the-seat-of-your-pants tank battles is reminiscent of the Close Combat series. It's rough sailing (on medium to hard) but very satisfying when you've cleared an objective. Well worth the price of admission.

    15 smoking tank hulls, 80 toe-tagged enemies and a fully cratered town ... it's Millah Time! :)
