DOOM3 GONE GOLD!
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 14, 2004 10:23am PDTIt's the moment you've all been waiting for, DOOM 3 HAS GONE GOLD! According to Todd H's .plan update, the official U.S. release date is August 5, Europe will get it several days after that.
Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing! It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made. ...In case you need some media to keep yourself entertained until August here are screenshots and videos. UPDATE: Here is the official press release and the UA-CORP website has been updated with a timer counting down to the estimated retail release. CNN Money reports there will be no DVD version.

May it keep slipping, and make it snappy cos I want this puppy in my hands damn it!
-slower player movement (since its single player only) compr. to q3
-similar weaps to q2 as its a standard id game (chain in, but rail out?, hyperb=plasmag?)
-a version of q2dm1 the edge will be included

1. For some reason I'd really like a screensaver using Doom3 tech. It could be really simple, just showing a character model of an imp or pinky (original Doom style) using the Doom 3 engine.
2. I reinstalled Doom 2 and the double barrelled shotgun is without a doubt the greatest weapon in FPS history. The look, feel, and sound are absolutely perfect.

Download one of these sets of files to a directory on your harddrive. Edit the HTML file and change the 550 entries to 1100 and the 400 entries to 800. There are 3 entries for each number.
This will quad size the countdown for your desktop. You can really change the size to anything you want.
Then all you have to do is make it your desktop (maximized).

Since doom is single player focused, how do you think multiplayer will be? *Qcon'03 people speak up*
Im seriously hoping that it turns out like it did with doom, and quake. With doom, finding out about multiplayer and then playing it non stop because its so great. Or with Quake, a single player focused game, that turned into one of the greatest multiplayer games ever. Imo, you need some off balance, to make a balance. I like the control style of play from Q1, Q2 was cool but a bit slow until bunnyhopping, the slower player movement and rockets was a bit of a turn off. Q3 speeds were alright, but there was too much focus on balance. Im really looking forward to shooting out lights, or turning them off in DM, but thats the last thing I will focus on. The last thing is armor systems, Q1 had a great system, it felt solid. Q2 and Q3 were a bit off, ticking down of the armor didnt fare well with me. Both of these armor systems felt like paper was protecting me. I wish i could explain it more clearly, but its really just a feeling that i got while playing.
