modding is just a "hobby" for many of us.

Everyone's dream is turning their hobby into a job, right? Why the fear - If you're good, apply! Game development is being run over by talentless crapspewers, save it!

the point is actually to not turn it into a "job"

That all depends on what your REAL job is.

If your "Hobby" can pay 3 times what your (no fun) job can, its a no brainer. If on the other hand you are a DR or Lawyer, then sure keep it a hobby.

Well for some people I'm sure that a: turning a hobby into a job can often turn it into a chore and b: getting a proper game dev job means surrendering almost all your creative control over what you want to work on, at least for the short term. So I can see why some are happy to keep it as a hobby, especially with the dodgy pay and working conditions in a lot of circumstances.

ALOT of people go from Mods to retail, Myself included. Was mapping for Atlantis a while back. I made the Vietnam type map in the release (AT-Jawa).
