Late Night Consoling
by Alec Matias, Jun 11, 2004 8:00pm PDTThis appears to be the week of gaming football. Almost every site has had new media for all the upcoming pigskin titles and the news of the budget-priced ESPN NFL 2K5 has sent fanboys ablaze. I know with you guys it has been a prevalent topic on the Shack lately, with many discussions detailing the merits of both titles. Personally, I'm just a plain big 'ol football fan and while I have typically sided with the Madden series, how can anyone pass up a normally fifty dollar game for only twenty bucks? If you're a person on the fence, I recommended checking out IGN's "Five Best Things About..." articles on both ESPN NFL 2K5 and Madden NFL 2005. My suggestion would be to buy both; can't ever have too much of a good thing!
| | It's Official: ESPN NFL 2K5 $19.99 GameSpot is reporting tonight that after discussions with sources within EBgames, it is now confirmed that ESPN NFL 2K5 will release at the incredibly bargain price of $19.99. Their source is quoted as saying, "The $19.99 launch price for [the] Xbox and PS2 is official and has been confirmed by the publisher." The game is set for release on August 24th, a week after Madden 2005. Expect a very interesting console sports war at the end of this summer! |
| | Halo to Land on the GBA? I typically don't like to report on rumors, but this one is quite interesting as it comes from a reputable publication. Craig Harris, the editor in chief of the IGN Gameboy division, recently had this to say in his latest mailbag article in response to a question of a possible version of Halo on the GBA: "...since it's been mentioned in another publication, I can confirm that, yes, Halo is in the works for the GBA." Bungie, however, dismissed this rumor on their website by saying, " There is no Game Boy version of Halo planned, and none in production. It's very unlikely that such a version would ever happen for all the obvious reasons, and the less obvious reasons, that the ColecoVision talks fell apart and The Bandai Pippin version is taking up all our development bandwidthâ?¦" Sleuthing courtesy of Slashdot. |
| | N-Gage QD Delayed in America Here's something that doesn't happen very often; a gaming platform is released in Europe before the US! Nokia's N-Gage QD, a revamped version of its cell phone gaming platform, has been officially delayed in the United States, now set to appear July 27th. The handheld was released in Europe and Asia two weeks ago for a bargain price (about $60 USD) and it's speculated the reason for the delay is that Nokia hasn't been able to secure a deal with American cellular companies to price it under $200. I'm sure many of you are heartbroken over this. |
| | San Andreas Details IGN takes a peak into the latest issue of the official PlayStation magazine in the United Kingdom and snares some juicy details regarding Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The oddest is the first; the ability to change hairstyles. The Sims has far-reaching effects, it seems. The other big details are that the game will support six times the draw distance of previous titles and the only loading times are the ones when transitioning from indoors/outdoors. |
| | Worms Forts: Under Siege! to Go Live In an announcement today, Sega Europe confirmed Xbox Live support for the upcoming Worms Forts: Under Siege! The game will support up to four players in a variety of game modes. European Marketing Director Matthew Woodley commented, "Part of what makes Worms the ideal party game has been the addictive multiplayer experience the series has offered. Worms Forts Under Siege on Xbox Live will be no exception to this." |
| | Weekly Bungie Update Frankie does it again with his weekly update. While this week there is nothing dramatic about it, no big details revealed, it definitely is another fun read. Funny topics include Xbox test units blowing out the power and a worker's battle with the flu. |
| | SideTalkin' Goes RearTalkin'! Two N-Gage stories in one night?! This one was too fun to pass up. In the Rumor Control section of GameSpot this evening, they link to an N-Gage fansite that offers a step-by-step guide on how to add an extra hole in the rear of the unit so that it can pick up audio while held in a more 'traditional' manner. However, the site (AllAboutNgage) warns that doing so will void your warranty, but more importantly, allows for a great risk of coming in contact with electro-magnetic emissions. Fancy talk for BAAAAD! |
| | Misc. Q&As/Interviews GameInformer interviews design director of Jak 3, Evan Wells. CVG speaks with Nokia's head of games Illka Raiskinen and talks about the upcoming N-Gage QD. And wouldn't ya know it, CVG threw me a curve-ball and split up the J Allard interview into two parts. Here's the second half for ya! Game Industry Biz has an in-depth interview with Microsoft Game Studios' Shane Kim. |
