GameSpy & CDKey
by Steve Gibson, Dec 03, 1999 12:11pm PSTA warning for you guys who just got Quake3 and are attempting to use GameSpy. There seems to be a bit of a conflict right now which causes some people attempting to connect through GameSpy to get a "someone else is using this CD key" error. Not quite sure what the problem is but for now I'd suggest just using the internal browser or just copying/pasting the IP from GameSpy to the console. (You can paste using shift-insert) Of course, once this problem is fixed you'll want to use this GameSpy filter to find all the registered servers.update Jack - I just spoke to Graeme at id who's looking into it on their end. It turns out it's not a GameSpy-specific problem, because doing quake3 +connect <ip> does the same thing. As soon as we come up with some sort of workaround, I'll let you guys know. I'm sure we'll be putting out a newer version of GameSpy soon to better support the final game anyway. By the way, this problem doesn't happen to everybody it seems.

Quake2 in the past, is something different than importing the tab?
another thing, I heard it works over LAN without CDkey auth... does that mean I will be able to play my brother without him having to shell out cash (he\'s only 8yrs old so he\'s not the richest guy:))
