Daikatana Images... Gold?

The guys at GamersVoice have scored a few new screenshots of Daikatana. The game is rumored to be going gold within the week (yes, I actually saw a pig flying yesterday) so now might be a good time to take a look and see what's up. Thanks loony. You can also check out the very large index of Daikatana shots in the screenshots section. Should have a totally revamped sshots section in a few days btw.

  • \"I\'d find it extremely difficult to forget the fact that Daikatana uses Quake 2 technology\" Um... Q3 is still essentially Q2 tech also, hell, it is barely an advance over Q2 tech at all. They\'ve basically added a few new engine features like curved surfaces and model lighting. Reportedly the curved surfaces is one of the problems with putting in a grappling hook, colision detection I\'ve read, does that sound like a brand new engine built from the ground up with curved surfaces in mind? There\'s nothing fundamentally different between the Q2 and Q3 engines. They even use the same level editor and directory structures, with a few modifications. They didn\'t even go as far as skeletal animation, dropped it at the last minute. Several projects using the Q2 and even Q1 (as in half-life) engines managed to add that in.

I don\'t know if DK is going to be worth a shit or not, I hope it is, I like playing good games... even if the makers have long hair (what a solid argument). If the only reason you\'re against it is because it is based on Q2 technology (HEAVILY modified Q2 tech) then you\'re not much of a gamer. Look at what people are doing with old id tech already, kingpin, half-life, anachronox, SOF. All of those are substantial step ups from the Qx technology they began with.

Sure, there still are some Romero lovers outthere (you being one of them needless to say), but I wouldn\'t go as far as calling him a legend, or even a game icon. He might have been a game icon a couple years go, when he was lucky enough to get the spotlight while working at id (maybe rest of the id crew was just too camera shy) - his long hair, acceptable looks and the fact that he is outspoken, have contributed to getting the status he has held for a while.

There is no doubt that the guys is one of the biggest hardcore gamers outthere; probably gets more pleasure out of beating Final Fantasy X, than getting a bjob from what\'s-her-face.

\"...if he comes out with a hit tomorrow no one will remember this bullshit.\"

No matter how hard I would try, I\'d find it extremely difficult to forget the fact that Daikatana uses Quake 2 technology, while I\'ve been playing Q3 since the test came out. And that\'s if I even found a motivation good enough to take that step back, and try Daikatana -- I doubt I will even download it. The current standards are high and we (the gamers) are so very demanding - Daikatana will have to be one amazing game, in order to become a hit.

    #121... amen dude.

I can\'t decide if I like Skinny Puppy over Wumpscut they both kick ass. I liked SP before :W: but I find :W: is more interesting to listen to, considering i\'ve heard all the other SP stuff. Right now i\'m digging-

    Unit 187
    Xorcist
Haujobb (remix with :W:, don\'t like their original stuff)
    Individual totem
    Coil
    Velvet Acid Christ

I like tons of other stuff but that\'s what i\'ve been listening to lately.
Post your e-mail or ICQ maybe we can talk muzac some time, not many people listen to the original Industrial (shame shame shame)

  • #98 says he knows testers that know for a fact they\'re not going to fix bugs in the game? Are you on crack? I know several of the testers as well and their entire job for over a fuckin year for the whole staff has been finding bugs and tweaking gameplay. Guess the oh-so relevant argument of Romero\'s hair or Killcreek\'s tits are coming up dry so people will have to revert to outright making up bullshit to trash the game they haven\'t played yet.

I thought ION was founded in mid-late 97 or there-about, the game can\'t of been in production more than 2.5 or 3 years (As if that fuckin matters at all). Being in the game industry since before Quake isn\'t exactly license for the \"old-timer\" title. Rumors are some people were working on games even before wolfenstein came out, I don\'t really believe that shit though.

  • #88 they started Daikatana in uhhh
    1999
    - 5
    ----
    1994?

    Eh...................................
I don\'t know if i\'m good at Math but uhh....5 years you say eh? Hmm....well that seems odd....
CONSIDERING THAT QUAKE CAME OUT IN 1995-96.
So your telling me that Romero was working at ID when he started on Daikatana? On a engine not even done....wow. No wonder hiro looks like him in Daikatana because hes a fucking time traveller. Maybe its a true story (irl).

Okay now i\'m just being silly...but you have mapped for Doom/Duke3d/Quake...me to and almost everyone here has probably tried it. You sit there and preach about how we bitch and moan then you just blatantly say

Ever made a Doom map? Duke Nukem? Quake? No? Well I HAVE.. I have done ALOT in the gaming world

\"I am better than you guys because i\'ve done more and shit, I rule j00\"
That\'s what i\'m getting out of it.....

Btw, AtaRi, can I see some of your mapping work? I would be interested in it, I have been in the scene since 93 and I never really was big into FPS games till Quake and since then that\'s all i\'ve done. But now I really don\'t care about FPS games. This isn\'t a direct insult on you, I just am frustrated with everyone saying how much they hate Daikatana..

I believe that Daikatana was started in 96-97 about, maybe i\'m just digging myself deeper but that\'s what I think so i\'ll stick with it.
