EAX in Quake3? Nope.

Billy got word from John Carmack early this morning that in case you were hoping to have EAX (Creative's 3D sound API) used in Quake3, the answer is.. 'no' so don't count on it. The only 3D sound in Quake3 will be the A3D stuff.

  • Not including EAX has got to be the gayest idea around. You would figure if they were going to support and type of positional audio they would at least pick on thatÂ’s efficient and not CPU intensive. Everyone who wants to play at 10x7 and above using A3D is going to need 600+MHz to keep their game from looking like a slide show. C\'mon now, the Live! is the least CPU intensive sound card on the market, you think that would warrant anything.....guess not.....do we have some biased opinions over there at id? A little closed minded are we? At least Creative is taking steps in the right direction with open source code, you would think that would get them some respect from id and the likes of CarmackÂ…..guess not :(

  • BULLSHIT! their high quality sound sucks as it is. anyone have SBLIVE?
for whatever reason, my game sounds like shit! can anyone recommend good settings for my live card? does my live card support A3D?
    wtf is A3D?
what a bunch of fags, you\'d think they could at least give you some better sound options. this new live card seems like its already garbage. all the shit seems tinny and crackly. 2 thumbs down!
    boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
you know what they say \"quantity, not quality!\" get the game out and fuck the other guys. FAGS! i tell ya if i had carmack in the arena, i\'d teach him a thing or two!

  • It would be good to see someone post a comparison between CPU consumption for an MX300 and the Vortex cards.

I have an MX300, Celery @540 and a TNT, and I see a noticable drop in framerate. If I can upgrade my sound card for <$100 and get A3D sound in Quake3 at no loss in speed, I\'m sold.

About the sounds, a lot of the weapon sounds do lack bass, most notably the Shotgun and Plasma Gun. The Rocket Launcher sounds fine though, so maybe they can fix the rest too.

I had a problem with studdering sound on my MX300 but it\'s ok now after I reinstalled the A3D drivers. The one real glitch is that A3D \"on\" doesn\'t stay on after you quit Q3.

That and the CPU usage, they REALLY have to fix it.
