A playable demo of Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine has been released by Lucas. The graphics are not mind blowing or anything but neither was Jedi Knight and I loved that game. You can grab the demo here. It's about 36megs. If someone on a fast connect gets a chance to play it tell the rest of us if it's worth the download eh? :)

  • I killed both of the sharks. Ready your machete, get in the water and slice up some tuna! It takes about 2 hits each, and after the first hack, a shark will run.

Here\'s a flaw in the demo:

After you kill the sharks and dive into the water, you can\'t enter the *huge* opening that the sharks came out of. What\'s up with that? It\'s a big cave enterance, water has flooded it, but no. Some dumb-ass programmer put up an invisible barrier to keep us out. What a bummer.

Oh well. Back to my Olympic-Class Jeep Jumping...

    Thanks!

  • Not very hard:

    - Move that one block on the upper part of the room such that you can climb up on a nearby ledge (you should be able to recognize it when you\'re playing).

    - Once there... notice that long protrusion between you and the other high ledge? What\'s Indy best-known for? I think you can figure this out. :)

I think a lot of people are just confused by this new game. It\'s more of an adventure game (albeit very straightforward) with action elements than Tomb Raider, which is more of an action game with adventure elements. LucasArts wants you to observe the area first, and then plan your action; Core would rather drop you into an action sequence and have you react instinctively there.

Oh, and about the \"where are the Nazis\" issue? Well, this is more than likely the first map of the game, so they\'re probably assuming that you\'re not quite ready for enemies who shoot back yet. :) You don\'t get Nazis this time, though... you get the Soviets (who effectively behave the same way)!

One nice touch about the game: at least Indy has a portable light source that doesn\'t burn out in 30 seconds.

  • My thoughts on the demo:

*Indiana Jones moves way too slow
*Same damn thing as Tomb Raider (climb a ledge, find a key, go back, find an underwater cave, use key on door, repeat)
*The graphics aren\'t bad, and the game runs pretty smooth on my slow-ass computer
*mlook could actually make using the mouse useful
*Sounds like the same guy that did the voice for Fate of Atlantis. I still don\'t like him
    *A few clipping problems
*Was kind of annoyed by Indiana Jones saying he has no room to maneuver when it\'s obvious that there\'s at least 5 feet of space all around him
*Maybe I just didn\'t play it long enough, but the few enemies I encountered were rather large bugs (scorpions I think) and killer fish. To me, it\'s just not Indiana Jones without nazis.
*I liked the way he takes off his hat before he goes in the water. It\'s a minor thing, but I think it adds to whole Indiana Jones experience :P
*Better atmosphere than the Tomb Raider series
*The maps aren\'t as blocky as Tomb Raider

I would have liked it to be a bit more action-packed or fast paced. I enjoyed it more than any Tomb Raider game, but not by much. It\'s still basically the same damn thing with a different character, and better designed maps. I wouldn\'t pay more than $5 for this game.

  • Eh, \"Fate of Atlantis\" was better [and the graphics on that one were set at 320x200x256 2D]. In fact, I still play \"Fate\" every now and then. Unfortunately, LucasArts has always been seriously weak when it comes to 3D. If they ever crank out a \"Jedi Arena\" [with graphics that at LEAST rival what can be found in Quake II], then I\'ll be interested.

LEC should stick to their 2D adventure games - assuming THIS [Indy : Infernal Machine] is the best they can do with 3D. An Indy title [movie or game] has to have a solid story [which is why \"Fate of Atlantis\" was, and still is, such a good game]. That whole \"Indy embodies the very idea of action hero...\" bit is cute and all, but it isn\'t much of a story foundation [which is why I think \"The Temple of Doom\" sucked].
