You know, after reading AYB's thread and recalling some other teen pregnancy thread yesterday, what is the general rule of thumb concerning protection with teenage sex? I mean, are teens just having sex without any protection and think there won't be a risk in getting pregnant? Do they think pull out before they do it works?

My girlfriend and I are young adults attending college and kids are something far off into the future for both us, therefore I use a condom and she's on the pill. If you wanna have kids one day, this is the ultimate in sexual protection, and it's relatively cheap and easy. Are doing those two steps so hard for many kids? The consequences can be so devestating to most people; why can't they follow at least one these two general safety precautions?! Are they just plain ignorant to the dangers (babies and diseases!)?

I didn't have a promiscuous teen lifestyle, so maybe some Shackers can answer these questions..

Just got back from the hospital seeing my son born. It's the 3rd one and it was still as emotional as the first. For those of you with more than one kid you know what I mean. The specs:

8 lbs. 14 oz.
21" Long
Born July 4th, 2003 at 11:49PM
And the best part...he has a 14 1/2" melon!!!

Apple hardware thread

Something occurs to me...

the G5 is at 2Ghz now, and depending on what you run on it, is ballpark with the Xeon/P4 (slower for 'normal' stuff, as it shouldn't be, fast as fuck for Altivec.. as it should be.), the P4/Xeon having a 1Ghz lead..

IBM have the G5 roadmapped to 3Ghz in, and I quote (Steve Jobs, who wouldn't make this shit up because he'd be in hot water with the stockholders) "3Ghz in twelve months or less", Intel are due to deliver Prescott late this year, but they'll be slow ramping it up. (the 'We're fastest.. so we'll holding pattern' thing they do.), it won't be at 3.6Ghz until this time next year according to the last roadmap I saw..

Now,
Worst case*, that gives us 3Ghz G5 verses 3.6Ghz Prescott, which would either look like things do now or give the G5 the edge (nobody is exactly sure how fast prescott is gonna be, but I doubt it'll match a ~400Mhz faster Northwood C, presuming such a beast were to exist. and it'll be on the same 800Mhz bus as the current northwood, whilst the G5's elasticIO will be at 1.5Ghz)

BEST case. +5, optimism
that gives us 3Ghz G5s in ~March (which would, I think, line up with IBMs 0.09 fabs having ramped up, AND Apples usual product refresh cycle).. with a refresh beyond that (to what I have no idea) at around the same time Prescott hits 3.6Ghz

3-3.5Ghz G5 on a 1.5 / 1.75Ghz elasticIO bus verses a 3.6Ghz/800bus Prescott..

I need new underwear.

disclaimer: this is all conjecture and presumption, based on IBM seemingly being able to deliver ahead of schedule + the aggressive rampup roadmap that SJ announced.

*Okay, so worst case is that IBM become Motorola II and can't scale it over 2.2Ghz for 18 months... but I don't personally think that's very likely. :)

We broke 100 shackbattles today, so I give everyone this. :) It's a little thank you.

Every player you see is a shacker, and lots of footage is from cooperative matches. It's all of us greatly outnumbered against a relentless enemy. We divide the teams up so one person takes archers, another melee, and so on. It's amazing to see such kickass teamwork and I applaud everyone who has fought beside us.

Excellent games, guys -- I look forward to another hundred matches.

All of my issues this evening appear to have been well worth the suffering.

Reason?

I finally got Vice City working with my new ATI card, it started up but the screen looked all monged, missing a whole right side of it. But it still ran, I just couldn't see the right 10% no matter how I aligned it. Straight away I noticed that it looked gorgeous, much nicer than it had looked on my GFTI-200, and it ran significantly better. Anyway, had to get to the bottom of why it was running missing the right bit of the screen. Quit out, load it back up again, go to display, and realise it was running at fucking 1920x1200, a res my monitor doesn't appear to support. It was running that res at 32 bit and it was flying. Running significantly faster than my GF3-TI200 was in 800x600 mode. I THINK I LIKE THIS NEW VIDEO CARD?!

Being able to play a game with a nice framerate at the same resolution/colour depth as your desktop kicks serious ass.

New Character Class: This new update introduces a new MOS: combat medic (91W). And true to U.S. Army form, with this new MOS comes the required training. Hooah! ThatÃ¢Â€Â™s right Ã¢Â€Â“ this update comes with 4 different medical training courses, culminating in a field test where you put your newly-acquired medical skills to work! If you pass these training courses, you get to play the role of combat medic online and administer first aid to your troops in the field.
New Damage Model: Under this new model, each bullet carries with it maximum potential damage. When injured, only a portion of damage is initially inflicted, growing more severe over time (i.e. blood loss, decreased combat effectiveness, etc).

New Missions: Not only do you get the 4 single-player training missions above, but a new multiplayer map is introduced: Mountain Pass, Second Edition.

New Interface: The in-game interface has been totally overhauled, presenting not only a sleeker look, but offering more functionality. Expect to see new features added to this interface over time.

New Character Models: All characters have been replaced with higher resolution models and textures and new animations (including facial animations and lip syncing).

New Anti-cheating Measures: one word: Punkbuster! Effective v.1.9, all US Army Official servers will run Punkbuster Anti-Cheat software .

Other stuff: player shadows (low & high detail), a new theme song, and so much more! Trust me when I say this mega-update is gonna be well worth the wait! Keep your eyes out for v.1.9 coming later this month!

From time to time I play Counter-Strike just to screw around. For me, it got old around Beta 5. It was great fun when it first came out, but after a while just got dull. I don't know. Cops and robbers just isn't my game.

Anyway, so I was playing this morning and of course everyone is accusing everyone else of "hacking." I giggle at this, because most of these guys were probably 12, 13 year old kids (their voices on the mics didn't help dissuade this idea) who wouldn't know how to "hack" if they even had the chance. To these people, "hacking" a game is downloading a DLL from their favorite friend's l33t FTP.

I'm going to admit something here. In the past I have cheated in online games. A long time ago, though. I mean, stuff like Descent. But as least I showed a little bit of achievement by doing the "hacks" myself. I really hate that word. I spent a few days finding the right offsets in the executable file that controlled weapon cooldown or which weapon fired which ammo. Later, on Kali, it would be funny to see reactions when my lasers fired in a constant solid stream. But, as with cheating in single player games, it just got plain old with no challenge. So I haven't done anything like that since.

So what am I ranting about? I dunno. Punk kids who think they're hot %(#* because they can download bots, I guess. Today I even saw two of them arguing over whose OMG HAX was better. As usual, I just chuckled, bought my MP5 and continued playing with my 1/1 score ratio, with a rank about in the middle of the team. And proud of it.
