by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 01, 2003 8:21am PDTI never was a fan of the TRON movie, and I'm certainly not a fan of this TRON 2.0 demo. I like the bright and glowing colors, better than all those dark dungeons or what have you, but the game itself..not too enjoyable for me. Constantly falling to my death just causes so much hate. Argh. Plus of course the whole waiting for next round (which seems to last sooo long). Movie: It's a nice night for a neck injury.

1. The Shack comments can be a very UN-friendly place. I've seen many newbs ripped up one side and down the other by self-proclaimed 1337's for the most childish reasons. http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=7949924
The Shack comments page is a very sCary and intimidating place.
2. I have work I should be doing. I have already "wasted" 25 minutes typing, spell checking, considering and re-considering posting this. (It'll just get ripped to shreds. #1) I Shack when I need a break from work.
3. I don't have time (#2) to bicker with people or defend my views about certain subjects, especially when half the comments are not even related. (#1)
4. I don't want to be someone who posts just to be posting *cough* rosewood *cough* or so I can complain about the PRL.
5. By the time I have found a thread to comment on or have something worthwhile to post, the comment I was going to make has already been said by someone else or I have taken up too much time already. This is my fault (#2).
Just an outlook from a lurkers' point of view. No offense meant to anyone, just using rosewood and ^-SeaWolf-^ to prove a point. I don't want anything to change, that's why I still come here. Thank you for all the catchphrases that I use on my perplexed friends (they love the dirtbox), interesting files (read pr0n) and topics. You asked, so I thought I would tell you. Now excuse me while I go back to my lurking.

Too Long? Don't Read
Fuck The PRL. You're getting this in one whole post because of it!
I've been putting this together for a while now. Most shackers will know about the utilities here, but for those who don't, I present to you a useful list of freeware programs that can make your PC life much easier. These are all utilities that I use myself and recommend to friends, and they don't get the inchwide stamp of aproval without being damn good! When I'm doing a fresh Windows install for family/friends/strangers off the street, then these go on first! I've chosen programs on their ability to do a good job, for free, and that are still being developed. If there's any programs I've forgotten or any wrong information I've posted then plse feel free to correct me.

StartupCPL 2.8 - Startup Control Panel [Freeware]
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Startup Control Panel is extremely useful for checking what programs are run when you first boot up. More often that not you'll have a load of crap loading up at the start of Windows which you don't need, eats up memory and may have the habit of crashing on you. Combined with this webpage ( http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm ) you can turn off useless tasks with 100% confidence, giving you a faster booting system that uses less memory.
TweakUI 1.33 - User Interface Tweaker [Freeware]
http://www.systemsmedic.com/TweakUI.htm
TweakUI allows you to change a whole load of settings, some of which are already accessable through the Control Panel, some of which are not. I use this utility to turn off all the anoying windows animations and fading effects that are otherwise a waste of time. You can also set your paranoia level so Document history, IE history, Find Files history, Last Run history, etc are cleared at login. You can also tweak your desktop to remove icons like My Network Places, Outlook, etc. Finally you can also set your system to automatically log you in when you boot up. Good program!
MSConfig - System Config Utility [Freeware]
http://www.techadvice.com/win2000/m/msconfig_w2k.htm
Let's you boot up in three different modes (Normal, Diagnostic and Selective) and also shows your System.ini, Win.ini and Boot.ini, along with the services and other programs that are run at startup. Startup Control Panel does a better job of showing what programs load when, but MSConfig has boot ini and system ini tools and is also a standard MS utility.
Systems X-Setup - System Config Utility [Freeware]
http://www.xteq.com/downloads/#xset
This utility can tweak so much I'm not going to even bother trying to list what it can change. If you're a hardcore tweaker then check this program out, otherwise avoid it in case you b0rk your PC.
jv16 Power Tools 1.3 - System Cleaner [Free for personal use]
http://www.jv16.org/
This is a great little program. It has a lot of useful features built into one program, most noticabley an excellent registry cleaner which scans your registry, finds all the keys that point to files that don't exist and removes them - this saved me 8MB on my registry alone! It will also let you remove 'Installed Software' registry keys that contain information about programs that you have actually uninstalled. It presents a list of such registry keys, and if you know (for example) that you uninstalled Kazaa ages ago, then you can remove all kazaa related keys that still exist. It will also let you edit your Uninstall Programs menu (sometimes you can get a program left on your Uninstall list that isn't there - this lets you remove them manually). You can also view Registered File Types, New File Shell Extensions, your IE Context menu, the Open With menu and the Search For menu. It also has functionality to find and remove duplicate and temporary files. A very useful program.
VoptXP v7.13 - Defragger [Shareware; 30 day free trial]
http://www.goldenbow.com/
This program is an excellent defragging utility. It will allow you to do single and batch defragging operations, and also gives you the option of shutting the machine down when they have all finished. It's pretty fast and certainly does a good job. It will run in safemode fine (something O&O Defragger refused to do for me) and also has a bunch of other useful features built into it, like ability to view Lan Users, Network Stats, a dead quick Drive Speed Test, Memory & Performance shortcuts, Error Checking, Find Old/Big Files, Cleanup & Privacy cleanup options and other utilities that the advanced user will like. Yah, it's shareware, but it's damn fine!
Ad-Aware 6.0 - Spyware Remover [Freeware]
http://www.lavasoft.de/
Got spyware? Are your cookies tracking you across the internet? Is Big Brother bothering you? Then use Ad-aware to get rid of all your spyware. This is a must-have program these days to keep on top of all the different ways there are of tracking you on the internet. I run it about once a fortnight just to clean up the rubbish that slowly accumulates.

Two big fucking red fonts where my Stafford and PHEAA grants are......
So now that theyve put a hold on my aid it means one of two things.
1) They are reviewing it to give me more money (since my father lost his job, and we submitted written requests, etc.)
2) *shudders* Since they have an inquiry into my brothers state status, it might also mean that they have opened the same into mine through association.
And I sit here nervously awaiting when they update it next........
I went to best buy and returned my old mp3 player. I then proceeded to the computer-section, located the ipods, and waited for 30 minutes for the person with the right key to open the display case :(.
The thing is, he had to watch me every second I had the 10gb ipod. When I decided to get it, he had to WALK me up to the counter. This wasn't the normal counter, it was the refund/exchange counter. He set it behind the counter, and left. There is sat, until I was ready again to greet the same lady who took my old mp3 player back.
I was going to use the cash earned from exchanging the mp3player, and then write a check. Then she asks for my drivers license. fuck. http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=7941904 . So close, but they obviously won't accept a check without a license.
So there it sits. Waiting for me :(
On the way back I was forced to listen to the radio (because I had exchanged my old mp3 player in, thus, no mp3s to actually listen to). It doesn't really have the appeal it use to. Too many commercials, too much pop music, and not enough music that I like.
Another thing: On my way driving back, I took 485, and I passed a woman reading the bearnstein bears to her kid, who's in the back seat, while she's driving. w.t.f. The traffic is moving at like 60-75 mph and she's fucking reading to her kid while driving.
Another thing v2.0: Will banks let you do withdrawls without a drivers license? I've never done a withdrawl, just deposits.

We'll be using Teamspeak 2 again (see Crimsonbeak's post here: http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=7835820 ). Please split into team channels. If you don't have a microphone, you should get TS2 anyway, you can listen to the rest of us acting like idiots.
UMax is gone for a little while, and requested me to pick up these. He'll probably still be at the battle though, so ou can harass him there (Which means you have to be there too!).

This is a logic problem given to my sister who is in the graduate program at ECU. However, she's a tad stumped. That's where you come in. Think you can do any better?

The Prize? An awesome oversized Tichondrius keychain (and probably some mystery prizes... games, books, CD's, DVD's, or just whatever I feel like including).
How Do I Win? Simple. Press up like a pirate. The better the costume, the better your chances of winning. Props are encouraged. Got a parrot handy? Use the bastard! Your parrot flies away... Have a girlfriend? Have her dress up too! Show cleavage... The only requirement is that you are holding a sign that says "going limp... HAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" on it.
The Deadline?]y I will start accepting entries now. I will stop accepting entries on Friday, July 4th at Noon (MST). That gives all of you slackers plenty of time to get something together...

damnit, there's some thing, it's making these beeping noises in a way similar to some song. but when I get up to move in any direction to hear it, it quietens down, when I sit down, the sound gets louder.
the farther away from my chair I go, I can't hear it. but as I'm in my chair, I can't determine it's location based on the sound.
fuck!
