by Steve Gibson, Jun 13, 2003 7:11am PDTI think I'm going to pay my neighbor a visit to check out that bowling alley he has installed pretty soon. It's really the only thing I can come up with for the just bizarre sounds I hear coming from that place. They might also have some kind of small arms firing range to check out too so that might be cool. We may have a hiccup this afternoon in service as we bring another machine online to serve up html. If you get any type of error rest assured that it is intentional since I cant really recall us ever making any mistakes in administration around here. Movie: You're not very bright are you? No. Perfect.

Lately much good music has been posted on the shack. I have taken notice, and added a few selections of my own, to present you with this delicious and nutritious treat. Enjoy, suckas.
Our first selection is vintage hiphop brought to you by some outstanding young citizens. I present to you A Tribe Called Quest - 1nce Again.

Next up on the list we have a track from an artist that seems to defy classification. This is the first track I have heard by them, and I intend to listen to more. Courtesy of Frederick "Jovial" Garvin, XVII, we have Afro Celt Sound System - Lovers of Light.

Here we have music from a veritable fiddle master. It just so happens that he is from the province in which I grew up, and I have long enjoyed his music. This is, I suppose, what might be called modern Celtic music... Also thanks to F. Garvin, this mp3 is entitled Ashley MacIsaac - Sleepy Maggie.

While I may not know much about the genre that is indie rock, I know that this song kicks your ass. Rest assured that you will be delighted to listen to Dismemberment Plan - Time Bomb. This is an excellent band and I would wholeheartedly recommend purchasing their latest album, Change, from which CD this track comes.

Let's end with some good old fashioned folk music. Suffice it to say, "you're a poopy poker." Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful songs produced over the course of the last millenium, I present to you, courtesy of Ian "The S is for Sucka" S., Ween - Mr. Richard Smoker.

Well, it's been a hell of a show, everyone. Take care, and try not to eat any dirt.

However one thing I would like to bitch about (few of you will have discovered this, so few will understand :( )
Flashget hung on me last night and I ended the task
Now when I open it, all my sub-group thingos are gone, and therefore the entire history of what files I've downloaded and where I got them (sometimes handy to have)
I'm very sad, I've been using that version of flashget for a long long time >:(
Once you learn to use the filter thingo you can have it automatically move all .au .aiff .wav .mid .mp3 to one folder called "audio" then you can do the same for whatever you like - exe files, compressed files, images, movies, game demo's (sure it can't autofilter a game demo, but you can drag it in there)
I'm very sad right now, it takes a good 60 minutes to setup properly and and ...
sad panda damnit
i also dreamt of a crocodile eating a dog
It's really long, but I could really use the help.

I have WMP7 and like it. However, it plays the new Halo2 video for like 2 seconds and then pauses/studders for like 2 seconds.
Is there any way to play the video without using WMP9 / agreeing to stupid DRM? I'm assuming you can't install WMP9 withou it removing WMP7. I also tried using winamp 2.91 to play the video but it didn't do anything (no video or audio).

But now one of my co-workers is playing through Half-Life and is telling me about it (I beat it long ago) and I'm having fond flashbacks of the game. That coupled w/the HL2 stuff is making me wanna finish the expansion.

Mageslayer
Year - 1997
Developer - Raven Software
Publisher - GT Interactive
Screenshots - http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/p,3/gameId,3103/
From the creators of Heretic and Hexen came this under-valued classic in 1997. Utilizing a top-down perspective, Mageslayer allowed players to control one of four character classes and embark on a brutal and bloody quest to defeat the evil mage, Thane. Gauntlet-style gameplay was the order of the day in this game: each character had both a long-range projectile attack and and up-close melee attack. Plow your way through literally dozens and dozens of enemies, hacking, slashing, and generally making their lives a great deal more miserable. Owners of Direct3D-compliant graphics cards would be treated to slightly sharper images, better filtering, and colored lighting (hey, at the time, those features were hella cool). A true 3D game, players could drop down pits, climb staircases, and maneuver around the 30 levels in a way that was never possible in the days of Gauntlet. Hook up with up to 16 others in one of several on-line multiplayer modes!
Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri
Year - 1996
Developer - Looking Glass Technologies
Publisher - Looking Glass Technologies
Screenshots - http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/p,2/gameId,516/
Truly one of the all-time greats of the action/sci-fi genre, Terra Nova was the brainchild of genius developer Looking Glass, whos pedigree includes titles such as System Shock and Thief. Not just another FPS, Terra Nova featured squad-level control, where players could choose up to three teammates to accompany them on most missions. Your squadmates, rather than being dumb 'bots with little regard for aiming, were actually rather intelligent soldiers, each with their own specialties and statistics. You needed their help, too, because the action was tough, fast, and intense: fight enemies across vast landscapes (a la Tribes) with day/night cycles, weather effects, and huge rolling hills and deep valleys. SVGA graphics and high production values rounded out this excellent package for both shooter and strategy fans.
