As noted in this new community update on the official Battlefield 1942 site, the 1.4 patch for the game has been released. There is a full download as well as a 1.31 -> 1.4 update. For you Linux server admins, here is the new release of the dedicated server and if you run a Windows server there is a new dedicated server release for that as well. The Battlefield 1942 1.4 patch offers a ton of changes, fixes and additions, among them there are two new weapons and a change of the "game feeling". Lastly, EA has FINALLY released a (beta) map editor for the game along with some sample maps.

oooh might that fix/improve the chat lag problem?

    - Less damage to planes from stationary machineguns.
WOOHOO! That combined with the more effective AA guns shouldn't leave planes much more powerful. Getting shot dwon in 5 seconds by a guy in some sandbags, or in an APC, sucked.

    - Road to Rome bombers re-balanced.
HAHA they probably made them less super ultra insane. Husky might not be the pilot's bitch, now.

Official map editor? Hmm I wonder how it compares with the user-made one. Regardless, more is better.

Only problems with the patch are the new view-obscuring assault rifles, and the whole "breaks every mod" thing. But I figure things will fall into place once 1.4 versions of everything are released. DC and EOD will be fine, and those of us with Merciless will be stuck playing on content-enabled servers.

On that note: if you actually have to disable/delete Merciless to play on a restriucted server, that will put a big dent in the user base. Probably to the point where most everyone will just run restricted servers, and our precious Merciless will go bye-bye... good thing 1.1-1.4 patches have fixed a lot of the stuff Merciless fixes. But I like their sounds and mapskins :\
