So I try to think of a story to tell. But I'm failing. Time for Steve to do a few werds. update by Steve: Poop? Movie: I can be your best friend or your worst enemy. You seem to prefer the latter.

  • Regarding that article about racism in movies ... it's kind of a no win situation. They talk about the "magical negro" stereotype -- but wouldn't the people who criticize that, find just as much to criticize in Bruce Almighty if, for example, the roles had been reversed and God had been portrayed by a white guy, and the person in need of god's help had been black? I can easily imagine that being offensive to someone if they were able to find offense in the reverse scenario.

I think we need more movies that mix race in a way so that one doesn't think about it. For instance, in Unbreakable, even though Samuel Jackson was the bad guy, I definitely didn't get the impression that he was bad because he was black. Race seemed absolutely unimportant in that film. Similarly, Rush Hour was one of the first mainstream films with minorities in the two main roles - yet that didn't occur to me until long afterwards. I think fretting about race is responsible for more problems than anything -- we've made so much progress in the last 50 years -- the only way we can continue to make more is if race is not discussed to death - until it is allowed to fade into the background as something unimportant -- because, in the end, race *is* unimportant.

    Just my 2 cents.
