JCal went out and asked a few mod makers about their opinion of Half-Life 2 and the possibility of transfering their mods to the game when its released in September. On hand are Charlie Cleveland of the Natural Selection team, Ben Irwin of the Firearms team as well as Neil Manke of They Hunger among other great mods.

  • If I had time (and sadly I have virtually no time anymore), I would be really pumped about doing some mods for HL2. I actually have several ideas in my head...but I will probably never do anything with them because I never seem to have enough time (not to mention assembling a mod team is difficult...its damned hard to find art people and mappers with the time and willingness who aren't already taken).

I'd love to do something with a ton of vehicles and several team based modes (maybe something akin to BF42's conquest which I always liked...and something where you have to collect ore using special vehicles or slower pipelines...a map based scripted objectives system would be ideal)...and you'd have to pick and choose your players abilities, augmentations (you could buy all sorts of implants, robotic exoskeletal pieces, nanotech, etc), equipment, weaponry, and armor/headgear. That way if you wanted to run and gun fast as hell you could but you'd have to make some sacrifices...and basically everyone would be able to play the way they wanted to and to specialize their role. Now I'm rambling incesantly over something I'd like to do and never will so I'll shut up about it.

Anyway, the physics stuff alone makes me drool and all the little graphical details...OMG! I'm really looking forward to this one to play and to make mods with (well to play...like I said...I don't have any damned time for mod making anymore these days...albeit maybe I will after work if I get this job I applied to).
