Late Night E3 Impressions

Here we are, day seven of my E3 impressions. I've got one more of these left to do before my big wrap-up piece this weekend, so look for that one on Friday. Tonight's installment has impressions of Doom 3, Space Colony, Railroad Tycoon 3, Steel Battalion: Line of Contact, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Xbox Music Mixer, and the Tapwave Helix. Here's an excerpt:

Tapwave Helix: After my disappointing experience with Nokia's N-Gage, I was really hoping that this device from startup Tapwave would offer some serious competition for the Game Boy Advance, since Nokia's phone/gaming system clearly won't. And while I do have some questions about how they're going to position themselves in the marketplace, the hardware at least is very promising. Here's the basic info: this is a PalmOS device, which has been developed from the ground up to support gaming. It's held much like a GBA (standard, not SP), and features similar shoulder buttons. It also sports an analog stick, which is a much better implementation of one than SNK had with their Neo Geo Pocket. Other buzzwords here include support for bluetooth multiplayer, dual SD slots for games and/or music, data or expansion modules (such as a camera add-on) and the ability to play games in either the default horizontal layout or a vertical one (which apparently was requested by developers)...
