it's not a f@cking add-on, it's a complete new game which will be backwards
compatible with the previous ut2003 title. Totally new graphics and character models
not just the skins, so it's not just extra maps and characters it's a complete new game with the old one included how good is that?
and still you're all bitching about it, every year the new Unreal Tournament will be
backwards compatible too so that shouldn't be a problem.

Guess Epic is going the EA Sports route with the UT series. The idea has some potential, but i think shooters are too complicated to do this right.
In a football game, for instance, the 'map' does not take a lot of hours to create. That's a whole different story with FPS games. I recall Levellord saying in an interview that a typical CSZ map take about 600 hours untill it's done).
I seriously doubt if the EA sports approach will work in the FPS genre.

UT was pretty cool to me. Basically took Unreal, changed the weapons up, added some pretty kickass maps, and made multiplayer much more worthwhile, with mutators and mods out of the box. A little repetitive though, so I didn't play it too long.
UT 2K3 sucked major balls, IMO. The only cool thing was the powerball or whatever mod. I did not like the changed weapons with the exception of the lightning/sniper rifle.
Actually, if this is priced for the budget range, I'll pick it up. If it's a full price game, then they need to offer the added content in a seperate box at a budget price.
What I'd REALLY like to see is for them to include the best of the best of the user made levels, to give the mappers some credit and make their stuff part of the standard install.
In total, Unreal Tournament 2004 will ship with more never-before-seen maps than the entire number of maps that shipped with Unreal Tournament 2003!
Considering how many maps shipped with UT2K3 that's a lot.

Map voting UnrealTV and tons of things like that are a welcomed addition.

Or at least they should consider half-priced/free upgrade option for those who got uk2k3 with some serious copy protection.
Wait... I get it. Maybe strafe-jumping is included in UT2K4??? -_-

Epic themselves said they would be doing this
When EA releases the different iterations of Madden, NBA Live, NHL and call them sequels. I subconsciously accept it and move on. Why? Because my mind realizes that there is only so much you can do to re-invent games rooted in sports (how the hell do you re-invent basketball or football? etc). And the market for that genre caters mostly to mindsets already rooted in the actual real-life sports themselves. Ok, case in point.
Now, when DVD's come out for movies and have deleted footage tacked on with special features or interviews etc. Consider this; did the people and companies behind these products have the gull to call them direct sequels? No, they didn't. Why, because they aren't.
Ok, case in point.
Now, when UT Game of the Year Edition and SOF2 Gold and Thief Gold etc all came out, did Epic, Raven, and Looking Glass all have the gull to call these games direct sequels? No, they didn't. Why, because they aren't.
Ok, case in point.
Now, consider what Epic is doing with UT2k4 and consider the above.
If I am proven wrong because Epic says that they are improving the engine or something or revitalizing the multiplayer aspect by featuring some innovative new features or adding tech, so be it, but until then...
I dunno, maybe it's all a question of semantics, I rest my case.
I can think of it not really as a sequel, but more of an addition to the series... similar to NBA Live 2001, 2002, 2003, and so on... same engine, probably minor changes... minor weapon balance adjustments, and a SHITLOAD more features...
think of it as a big huge patch of luv, gentlemen :D

I like Unreal & Quake equally well, but UT 2003 was such a bummer. Awesome graphics but the gameplay/weapons just wasn't any fun. Imaho.
Wish this one was diff. engine or something, rehashed content = blah.
